This just in from Long Player leader, Bill Lloyd... just a friendly reminder that The Long Players have an early 8PM show this coming Saturday night at 3rd & Lindsley and
we are revisiting The Band's 1969 self-titled classic. 8PM show and doors open at 6PM

Everyone loves to talk about Americana like it's something new but a casual listen to this classic album is like finding the blueprint of what Americana is.

So many musicians and critics cite this album as the musical statement that slammed the door shut on psychedelia.
It certainly was one of the records that changed the tide. This is the record that Eric Clapton has famously claimed made him not want to do
what he was doing in Cream anymore. It's the record that George Harrison raved about to The Beatles and they started recording their rootsier
Get Back/Let It Be material live in the studio.

People knew The Band as Dylan's backing group but they were so much more. A bunch of musicians who could play musical chairs
and switch instruments and singers at the drop of a hat... yet it all flowed like a country stream. Robbie Robertson's songwriting
conjured up characters that sounded like they jumped out of a history book and The Band married his visual lyrics to rootsy mixture
of rock, country and r'n'b that got played all over FM radio at the time. Up On Cripple Creek became an AM radio hit to boot.
As usual, we'll be doing the whole album front to back, taking a break, and then coming back with more iconic songs from Big Pink, Cahoots, Stage Fright...

We covered this album WAY back in 2004 and we are revisiting it with a stellar group of guest artists: In alphabetical order..you'll see
The Long Players along with Matraca Berg, Pat Buchanan, Jeff Finlin, Danny Flowers, Jeff Hanna (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Colin LInden, Chuck Mead,
Gary Nicholson, Jim Photoglo, James Rubin and Webb Wilder bringing these songs to life

We will have an extended group of players with The Long Players this time...Jim Hoke is bringing the horn section, Peter Hyrka (Gypsy Hombres) is bringing
his fiddle..Jen Gunderman AND John Deaderick will BOTH be covering the keyboards this time, Garry Tallent is back on bass and the Steve's (Ebe and Allen) and
Bill Lloyd will be holding down the fort as usual.

This is a wonderful album and not a bad vibe for some pre-Thanksgiving celebration.
3rd and LIndsley's room has been expanded now so there's plenty of room! Bring friends!
We would surely love to see you there.
Thanks
