Member Signup Questions

Why sign up?
Although the board can remember your user name even if you are not a registered member, it is a good idea to sign up for several reasons. First, if you are a member, nobody else can post using your name, which keeps your identity unique. Second, Webb plans to send email greetings to registered members from time-to-time. And third, your friends will just plain think you're cool!

How do I sign up?
There is a "signup" link at the bottom of on the login page (look for the dancing hat!). Click it. Fill out the form, read "the ground rules" at the bottom of the form, and then click 'submit.' Assuming everything checks out, you'll be a member immediately!

What about my email address?
Your email will be kept for ID purposes, mailing list (if you opt in), and for sending replacement passwords should you lose yours. We will not sell or reveal your email to any third party.

Questions About Posting

Can I use HTML?
HTML is not allowed in posts, for security reasons. It gets converted to non-HTML characters.

Can I use smileys?
Sure, why not? :-)

How come I don't see what I just posted?
First, did you receive a page saying your post was successful? Every successful post is followed by a confirmation page (or an error page, if one occurred). Next, please make sure your browser's cache settings are properly set. Alternately, you can refresh whatever page you're looking at to make sure you're seeing the latest version.

I just got told I have to wait to post another message, or another reply. What's up with that?
The board has a posting delay built-in, to prevent repeat posts. Once you've clicked "Submit" to post a message, please wait until a confirmation message appears before moving on. Only click "Submit" once... that's all it needs!

Can I post links?
The board creates links automatically, whenever you include a web page address in the text of your post. IMPORTANT NOTE: You must begin the address with http:// for the link to be detected.
Examples of a good link:
http://www.yahoo.com will produce a link to Yahoo automatically, like this one: http://www.yahoo.com

Example of a bad link:
www.yahoo.com is broken because "http://" was omitted, so no link will be generated.

Can I post images?
Embedded images are not allowed. However, you can post a link to a page where your pictures are displayed.

General Questions

Every post says it's new! How come?
If you recently deleted your browser cookies, or if it's your first visit, the Webb Board will not be able to determine what is new since your last visit. Therefore it assumes everything is new. Make sure your cookies are on, and only those posts that are new since the last time you visited will actually be marked as new. If you're sure your cookies are on, and it's still not working, check again next time you visit (at least a day later).

The board doesn't remember the user name I use. What's wrong?
Once again, please make sure your cookies are on. If cookies are on, once you've posted, your name should stick even if you're a board guest (not a member).

I like to use Google News (or MyYahoo!, etc., etc.). Do you have any RSS feeds I can use?
Yes, we have several. Please refer to this page for details.
