Was "Drapes" a reference to pre-Elvis greasers as seen in John Waters' movie "Cry-Baby", or did it have some other meaning?

We didn't know about the John Waters thing at the time. Not sure which came first actually. Bobby Field was kinda fascinated with the word at the time. He would refer to certain clothes as "Drapish." It was kind of a whole conceptual way of approaching things in kind of an anti-heroic "gray" way which only coincidentally (I think) had the Rockabilly connection as in "drape coats" and such. WW
