I am working on convincing Dolly to trade weekends off to make this happen but it's kind of iffy right now.

Holy moly, it's over 800 miles from Oswego to Asheville. The guys have bigger stones than me. Good thing they have Saturday off. Would like to have been able to go to Oswego though... anything to escape this strangulating GA heat.

What a trip!! I set out Sunday morning with my mom and my girls for a lazy Sunday to check out the festival and see Webb in the afternoon. Ten minutes outside of Asheville my front tire BLOWS UP....scared us to death....We waited patiently on I-40 for the tow truck for what seemed like forever.(many thanks to Leon Fox Towing in Asheville) The girls got to ride on the back of the tow truck in the car w/ their Nana to the tire repair shop in Asheville...big fun for them! We found a nice cabbie to take us to Bele Chere and made it FINALLY around 3pm while the tire was replaced. We arrived and immediately found Tater chatting with Webb (through the fence) and setting up swag! We went to the stage and found friendly faces in Dolly, Missy and the tots. It was so nice to find friends after such a trying morning! The band before Webb was very cool and I liked the whole Bele Chere feel. Most importantly... my girls finally got to meet the infamous "Tater Tots" and they were thrilled!! We were so glad to finally be there, though sad that we missed the whole festival thing. The band was also behind the fence so we could not chat pre-show. Webb and the guys went on around 430 and they were awesome. I have to say, this was the ONLY bright spot in my day on Sunday, so many thanks to Webb, Tom, Bob and Marshall!!! The sound was excellent and a large crowd gathered for Webb. Even more importantly, we finally got a venue where we could dance!! It was great......hot, but great! I think I shed a couple pounds out there in the sun. The new album was in full force and it seem that the crowd approved. I'm hoping that Dolly got the set list!

Unfortunately, the tire place called right around 5-ish stating they would be closing in 15 min..so I had to check out early to hail a cab and get to Firestone. So, the last 3 songs I got to listen to while I waited for my cab due to a mix up at the cabbie dispatch. Nice. But, at least I could hear Hoodoo, Loud Music and Tough It Out, right??? My mom is always the optimist...b/c I was ticked!!! The girls were upset because they could not meet the band, but they loved the show and heckling the guys during set up. They helped swag for a little bit and got to hear some of their faves....so all in all they left satisfied.

Anyhoo....much to our dismay this was only the beginning of our troubles. That night on the way back we had another tire issue and wound up staying in Winston Salem and having yet another tire replaced on Monday....JOY. But at least I didn't have to do my payroll this Monday :) That task was pawned to someone else thankfully!! So moral of this very long and drawn out story....

Towing.......$75
Tires..........$250
Hotel..........$80
Seeing Webb & the Beatnecks rock it at Bele Chere.....PRICELESS

sorry to hear of your troubles Christina... but think of it this way - of all the trips you've made to see Webb... this is one you'll never forget.

Christina, I had no idea! All I saw were the smiling faces of you, your mom and your kids. Sorry it was such an ordeal! Got two new tires, though, huh? If it's any consolation, my car started runnin' rough yesterday so I guess I need to spend some MORE money on it. Hope this week goes smooth. Great to see all of you. Thanks so much for all the trouble you went through to come to and return from Bele Chere. Best. WW

We really had a great time in Asheville. We took the Tater Tots and Missy for thier first Bele Chere experience. They really enjoyed the festivities, the pool at the hotel, getting their faces painted, and listening to Webb and the Beatnecks. Jimmy was unable to attend and the ever capable Marshall filled the empty slot rather nicely. It was pretty hot by showtime and the Band put on a really tight permformance. The sound emanating from the venue on the south side of town attracted a large crowd. You could feel the Hypnotic-Siren-Like-Swampadelic-Vibrations calling to the wandering souls who knew they only had one last chance to hear some good music as Webb was scheduled to perform as one of the last acts at Bele Chere. (4PM Sunday). Here is the set list which Dolly did acquire from one of the guys:
Big Time
Human Cannonball
Sputnik
The Only One
Pretty Little Lights of Town
She's Not Romantic
Still Water Runs Deep
Too Cool for Love
Stay out of Automobiles
Lonely for a Reason
Don't Slander Me
She Don't Come Around
Mississippi Honkey Tonkin'
Changing Colors
Ju Ju Man
Pretty Is
One Tatste of the Bait
Loud Music
Hoodoo Witch
Tough it out.

It was nice seeing Christina and her young Mom and Christina's 2 lovely daughters. You could tell both girls loved the music. We are all doing our part to grow Webb some younger fans. Tater Tot Kiersten assisted one of Nancy's friends selling SWAG. I am terrible with names, I believe she was Mary/Michelle? In any event, she is a superstar SWAG seller as she easily beat my previous record in sales. We were pretty beat by the time the show was over after walking around all day in the beautifull Asheville sunshine, so we stayed another night at the hotel, cooled off poolside and left for home on Monday morning. No flats and no speeding tickets (this time). We are looking forward to the Down Home next month.

As I said Webb...you guys were the one bright spot in our day and we were so happy to have made it in one piece and in time for our WW fix!

Keira is still ecstatic that you did her faves...Human Cannonball and Honky Tonkin' and that you pointed at her during Cannonball. She really wanted to meet you but we'll save that for the Fest. :-) Both girls were delighted to meet Haley and Kiersten and cannot wait to hang out again in October.

I hope to have pics and video posted soon!

See ya at DH!

I'm sure it was a great show.... LOVED Tom's Shirt.

I thought about making the ride over... it's usually pretty wild over that way for Belle Chere but easily worth the trip for Live WEBB.

But we had a little misfortune too... My youngest (Conner) fell while we were at a pool party at a friends house on Saturday, it was in the yard but must have fallen funny and landed on his elbow. He's a tough feller but whimpered and complained that it still hurt and hurt to move it..etc. Well seemed like it must be bruised... by Sunday morning it was swelling up pretty good - so after church (when I could have left for Asheville and made the 1hr 15 min drive to Belle Chere)... we ended up at the Emergency Room for X-rays ... sure enough he's got a cracked bone in there, we left the hospital about the time WW took the stage I guess - he got fitted for his cast on Monday afternoon .... now he's got something to show the girls at school I guess when it starts back in a couple weeks.

Glad everyone made it home - some later then intended ...

Gosh, it seems we've all had a run of bad luck!! Sorry to hear about your car Webb. Perhaps we picked up some bad JuJu in Asheville.

Eric, I hope your son recovers well. Broken bones are no fun...but I know some excellent ortho docs in Roanoke! :)

Looks like we are all due some good luck...hopefully in time for Down Home

Thanks for the well wishes I'll pass along to him ... if things would have worked out better - he could have got lots of autographs from his favorite band WW & the BTNX - but alas it wasn't to be.... he'll probably have it off by end of August.

Will be checking out that website Tom... looks like I'm buying a shirt....

And aren't cars fun.... what kind of car was giving you such a time Webb ... not the Econoline....
