If you can't share your thoughts in your own name, please, keep them to yourself in the future. I happen to like this album quite well as I feel most of us do. It is a different twist than maybe what we are used to BUT it is refreshing, crisp and just FUN to listen too. I have always admired Webb for sticking to his guns and being his own man. Everyone has the right to offer an opinion even if it isn't in agreement with the majority of the people on this board. However, I agree that Kool Kat was a bit forceful in expressing how he feels about the new album. It never hurts to shoot for diplomacy instead of coming on so strong.
And I do like the new CD. Some songs I definitely enjoy more than others, I must admit. My favorite is "Too Cool for Love." Webb is an extremely talented songwriter and an incredible musician, but we already know that, don't we? My point is that he doesn''t need R.S. Field behind the scenes to ensure a quality album. Maybe, Kool Kat, you just need to give the CD a chance to grow on ya. After several listens, you can report back and let us know if anything has changed.

Of course anybody can say what they want here. Let me repeat that...go ahead and express whatever opinion you feel is appropriate. I will do the same.
And in my opinion, which I am expressing right here and now, going on Webb's board anonymously to slam Webb's new album is not cool.
Here's the thing... I doubt that Webb and R.S. Field will ever do a whole CD together again, although anything is possible. They don't really get along very well these days, from what I hear. Without Bobby, what is Webb supposed to do? Retire? Just go on doing the old stuff over and over again? No way.
I think he made the right decision...write some songs, pick some excellent covers, and put out a CD. I understand if some folks miss Bobby, he's a really talented guy, but that's just the way it is. Life goes on, and we still love Webb just as much as ever!
Feel free to disagree. | |

Here's mine. If I didn't like the album or had negative feelings about it, I would just keep them to myself unless I was asked, especially if I liked the people involved in the album. I am sure if Webb (and Tom, Bob, Jimmy, George, Joe, and all the rest who were involved) wasn't satisfied with the finished product, we wouldn't have it in our possession today. Albums aren't made overnight. They are a long, hard labor of love. The ONLY thing I would change about the album is that I would like to hear it recorded live. I love live albums. They are a testament to a band that can bring it. Webb and the Beatnecks CAN, DO, and WILL bring it live. Kool Kat, if you are a lurking member who is afraid to reveal yourself, then stay gone. If you have never seen Webb and the Beatnecks live, get your ass to a show, and use the album to remember what you saw and heard until the next time you see them.

The album has a different feel to the earlier ones but its 'Unspoilt by progress' (With apologies to Banks's mild!) It shows Webb in a new light. We always knew he could rock. It was only when listening on the Headphones that I really got to hear the depth and complexity that is in there. It has loads of work put in and it shows. "Whip that boy and you'll answer to me!" | I haven't had the privelege of actually listening to the whole album yet ... because I have bought every new Webb CD post the Doo Dad Album (had it and HV on Cassette originally)... from the Swag Table ... call it a superstition or what you will but I am waiting until May the 20th to pick up on it...err pick up my copy. So I can't actually rate the new album just yet ... but from hearing so many of them live for the last couple years ... I am anxious to listen to them in their entirety fully produced and recorded in the studio. As good as all the songs are I can't imagine that I could be dissapointed... although I do agree with my pal Tony... hearing them live are usually even better then the studio version. So I wait as patiently as a 17+ year fan of the Man and the Band can until the day I get to officially bring home the NEW CD from the previously mentioned Swag Table.
But this other deal does kinda remind me of what Brisco Darling told Sheriff Andy when he didn't believe he could get banjer sounds and geetar sounds out of his jug... "man's entitled to his own opinion..." If nothing else I just made most everyone think of the Andy Griffith show episode - The Darlings are Comin'
See you in Kingsport on the 20th, Webb .... hope to catch many of my fellow Tri-Citians there as well.

More importantly, this new album is rockin! The guys are really proud of it and so am I! RS is certainly talented, but I think this album was an opportunity for Webb to shine on his own accord (and the Beatnecks as well) and they accomplished that. I would love to hear it recorded live --as I always prefer a live performance to studio work -- BUT, that being said - this is one of my fave WW albums to date. Every song is unique. I listened on my headphones as well and you can definitely hear the complexity that you don't pick up on just jammin' in the car. I consider Webb a friend and to call him or his music weak is just unacceptable to do in this venue. 1)- because it's not weak and 2)- because it's disrespectful to Webb and the fans on this board. I don't think any of us enjoy weak music! I know we don't all like the same things and that's what makes life fun -- but let's agree to play nice!

I'd wager Mike's fresh Franklin that all of us here hope "More Like Me" sells a million copies!
That said, not EVERYone here is necessarily going to like EVERYthing Webb does, and such is not required, I'm pretty sure. Kool Kat chose to voice an opinion that has rankled some. In my feeble view, he/she has the right to do so, be it openly or anonymously. There are a good number of people on this Board who use aliases (some, multiple aliases), not providing their real names (and hopefully, not their real pictures!). If we're going to call out Kool Kat, shouldn't we call out everyone? Or is it just because Kool Kat said something that some didn't like? Let's be fair.
Keep rockin', WW ... to all of us here, you are da man.

Finally got the full copy from the Swag Table last Wednesday and have been listening ever since. Had a weekend trip with the Family and we listened to it several times over while on the road. The album has got such an eclectic mix of different sounds and styles.... it takes you through a trip itself as you listen - highs, lows, ups, downs - fast, slow.... quality music and sounds that you just don't get from anyone else in todays pop driven world. So far "Don't Slander Me" is getting the most replays by me... they really Wilderized that song.... sounds like one that could have appeared on Doo Dad or Hybrid Vigor....
