Did anybody get tore up bad by Ike besides me? We got a spacious skylight where the parlor roof used to be an some other added features. How did it hit you?

Sorry to hear about that, Mo! Up here in whiz-con-sin we just got a lot of rain. A bit of flooding around here, but it certainly wasn't the disaster everybody down south got.

We have NO gas. I mean none. If a station has gas for the moment, the lines are 50 deep within minutes. People are following tankers to their stations.

Still hasn't really rained in East Tennessee in weeks... we have missed the hurricane extras this year ... so far... though we are planning to get some rain tonight and possibly ruin our 20th year High School reunion get together at the football game... may be slushy out at the old ball field.

As for Gas... not too bad up this way lately .... I had to drive down through Knoxville earlier in the week... gas was 3.39/gal.

As Eric said, in Bowling Green, we haven't had any rain to speak of in many weeks. We got really lucky in the Ike fallout in that we had strong winds, but we never even lost power (unlike Louisville, which still has people without power, and other parts of KY and TN).

We also have not run out of gas, though I know Nashville did last weekend. Gas here in Bowling Green is 3.74 at the moment. I bought some for 3.69 in Glasgow yesterday. Right after Ike passed through, one station in Franklin, KY, was selling it for $4.76.

Hunter, $4.76 that far north of the gulf sure sounds like gouging to me!

Eric you lucky SOB!! 3.39 is cheap by WI standards! It was $4.09 typically, up here, until last week... then $3.89 started to appear. Now we're starting to see some 3.70's and thereabouts.

Good thing too, 'cause I gotta drive almost to Upper Michigan later today - takin' dad home from the hospital (he had another cardiac catheterization in Green Bay yesterday, and can't drive).

I like to watch the following easy-to-read energy price summary page, especially on the days oil and/or RBOB gas are plummeting... while I chant "DIE, OIL, DIE!!" Where is my electric car with 300 mile range, anyway?

Here's the site: http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/

Wow ... this thread is really wandering now... my bad.

We had tons of rain here in Kansas City. Fortunately my Texas relatives only had to endure extended power outages and large pieces of trees all over the place. (What Hurricane Rita missed.) My sister-in-law south of Houston came became a believer in Hurricane rated housing codes when she came out of Ike with only some blown over trees and some damage to a fence.

Anybody heard from Nese? She's from around Houston.

Well, I'm glad everyone up that way is OK. Sorry about the damage, though! We've gotten a lot of rain here in Roanoke over the past week- but no damaging winds etc. - thank goodness. Gas is up to about 3.89/gal.

As for the gas shortages, I'm hearing that it's crazy in NC...Many places are completely out and if they aren't, there are 2 hr lines to wait to pump gas around the Asheville area. I hope that clears up before 10/11/08. Although, I don't think I'd mind being stranded with some fellow Webb fans!

Subject: Asheville Gas
I can vouch that gas I've seen in the last 2 weeks lasts about 3 hours max at any of the stations it makes a surprise visit to. One can go days without seeing any for sale. I'm glad I get 38+ MPG but that still doesn't help when you need the stuff! You HAVE to start looking when your tank is half-full. Caveat Emptor, kiddies. That said, the long lines I've been in have been no longer than 25 minutes and people have carried themselves with decorum, thankfully. But - all of what i've said applies only to where I work in East Flat Rock, about 25 miles South of Asheville, where the situation is considerably better. I get my gas there. I have not seen gas for sale in Asheville in quite some time.

Welp, East Flat Rock now has multiple gas stations pumping like normal with more than one grade of gas. So the hurting's over, down south. As for Asheville, there is still a scarcity there. I have not seen any gas near where I live... yet.

Hey guys! Thanks MB. I'm IN Houston and the storm was very devastating! Trees everywhere..on houses, on the street, on cars, on the power lines. everywhere! My power went out about 3AM Saturday the 13th, I didn't get it back until Sept 29. I was lucky as far as property. Rain and a helluava lot of wind, over 100mph for at least 5 hours. There are still trees on the sides of the roads and lots of debris.
Luckily my employer is a wholesale grocery supplier, we had to stay open and they even provided a special stash of gas (@ $2.00/gal for the employees, water and ice.
Feeling very sad for the missing and the people closer to the coast that lost everything to storm surge, the wind didn't help either. In a way it was kinda cool but that's the weirdo in me! Most things are back to normal, most traffic signals are up and working again, most gas stations have fuel, most everyone has electricity again.
It was like camping before my trip, at least I know my gear is ready.

And the cats are glad I'mnot kicking and stepping on them anymore!
Hope everyone else got out without out much damage.

Nese,
Depending on the available funds and the price of gas, I will try to secure a copy for you. Say a prayer for us while you are in the Andes.
I'm sure there will be lots of photos taken. Susan & Tony, Dori & Mike and my bunch will be there as well as many others that I am not aware of.
Glad you are doing okay. I can't imagine anyone staying on Galveston Island, but they did.
Keep in touch.
