Subject: Crossville, TN Show (8-23-2008)
WOW! This was truly an awesome experience! Crossville, TN is a perfect little town that was blocked off with antique and muscle cars that passed in front of the stage as Webb & the Beatnecks played. Seeing this town get hooked on the man and the band was just really neat! Seating consisted of lawn chairs and the view quickly became tapping of feet. We were minus Jimmy and Tom but we quickly had the pleasure of talking with past Beatneck George Bradfute on bass and the drummer Bryan Owings (who stepped away from Emmy Lou Harris). Both very nice fellas. Bob Williams (lead guitar), well he is just plain and simple one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. We missed his wife Pam (darned ol business trip) but look forward to seeing her at other gigs SOON! This band is just as Mike says it "Good People". Webb really played his heart out to the crowd and would stop them in their tracks. Many people came over and made comments such as... he is awesome, what a great stage presence, he is hilarious, great show ETC... Saw some familiar faces from previous shows and even from the Webb Board. Outdoor events are just different, it is how things should be "Good Ole Americana". We enjoyed it immensely. Here is the set list provided to us by Mr. Bradfute the "Tone Chaperone":

14) How Long Will She Last
15) Meet Your New Landlord

Allways the gent signing autographs and taking time to educate on the music scene. Was fun finally meeting Bradfute, that boy can handle the bass quite well but was missin some boots.

Well, thanks to all of ya'll for everything. Rick and Dori did a bang up job manning(and womaning) the swag table and we REALLY appreciate it. Rick, "Worried Life Blues" can be traced back to "Some Day, Baby" or vice versa. Big Maceo, Big Joe Williams all did something that seems to have contributed to it. I thought for a long time it was by Jimmy Rushing. By the time Muddy Waters got ahold of it, it was "Trouble No More." To be fair there are differences in "Trouble No More" and "Worried Life Blues." I guess that's why Dylan felt like he could write some extra words, call it "Some Day, Baby" and take writing credit for the whole thing which is what he did with more than one song on his last album. I KNOW! Anyway, was the right hand drive Mini Cooper yours? Cool! LOTS of neat cars, folks. Well, AWLRIGHT! WW

TommyLee, you are so right! I am continually amazed at the folks that at hooked on the band at their first introduction. At Smith's in Atlanta we had three separate folks that told Dori & I they came to see the opening act and when they heard Webb start, they stayed and were taken in. All bought CDs. At Crossville, I would guess no more than a handful of folks knew of Webb before he took stage but by the intermission, we had a line at the swag table. It is just a BLAST to witness. The band is on a roll as I have not seen in years. Dori found some photos last night we took at an outdoor show at the Silo Brew Pub in Louisville. I will guess sometime between 91 & 93 as Donnie was still with the band. The crowd then was what we are seeing now. It is so much fun to watch. We look forward to seeing you and your wife at Webb Fest. BTW We will be at Lucas School House in Dec.
