Do you smell something? | I only recently realized that "Devil Woman" was by Cliff Richard. Back in the early '80s, I watched (and loved) the British comedy "The Young Ones" when MTV aired it. Rick was a huge Cliff Richard fan. I knew he was big in the UK, but I had no idea that I actually knew a Cliff Richard song until recently. (The cast of "The Young Ones" also appeared in a Cliff Richard video, back in the day.)
I like most of the songs that have been posted so far. I'd add these from the '70s:
Kiss You All Over - Exile Black Betty - Ram Jam Rock On - David Essex Hooked On A Feeling - Blue Swede Hocus Pocus - Focus Pop Muzik - M Nicole - Point Blank Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It) - Daddy Dewdrop

About your list - I like several you have on it, but I believe Exile went on to have several hits on the country chart. Couldn't name any, though, as I'm not a big fan of their country songs. If you count Exile anyway, perhaps we could include "Shakedown" by Bob Seger as it was his only #1 song and he did it without the Silver Bullet Band. What do you think?

Although it doesnt count Bill Bartlett, the fingers of Ram Jam also had a hit or two with the Lemon Pipers.
The yodeling by focus would make a great song for Webb to cover.
Point Blank-Rusty Burns, another killer geetar picker. From down around where Webb used to live if I remember through the fog correctly.

Rusty Burns used to spend a lot of time here in Houston. I remember him helping us out in the studio.
Devil Woman was like a second round for Cliff, he was around in the 60's. I gotta admit, I liked The Young Ones.

Most of them have been covered, that would come off the top of my head... MM has been really filling it up .... where did you find that stuff - alphabetical and everything.... I do recall VH1 doing a top 100 countdown of one hit wonders....
Anyway, one of my favorite songs of all time is probably considered a one hit wonder - not that the lead singer and other band mates didn't go on to play for other successful bands but .... I would have to add....
"All Right Now" - by - Free - yes Paul Rodgers went on to make Bad Company a huge band... but I always loved that song - guess I always will ... but it is really the only "hit song" by the band called Free.

Sugarloaf had a third almost-hit, "Tongue in Cheek." It was a fairly long song, with parodies of different styles of music. Had a CSN-like verse, a Zappa-like verse, etc. It got considerable airplay in my neck of the woods.
Free! Now that was some good stuff. Besides Rogers and the amazing Kossoff, don't forget Andy Fraser on the bass and Simon Kirke on the drums. I loved their sound. It was heavy, but sorta minimalist at the same time. There was a lot of space in it.
Which gets me started on a story. In 1970 I was in the Navy, stationed on Guam with a reconnaissance plane squadron, the old Super Constellations with the radar domes on top and bottom. I was an aviation electronics tech, worked mainly on UHF radios and navigation systems. We always had one or two planes operating out of DaNang, and my number came up to go on a three-month detachment working in the comm/nav shop there. I actually went to Viet Nam on the day that Jimi Hendrix died. As we were getting on the plane, one of the line crew guys drove up on a forklift and gave us the sad news.
Anyway, the Armed Forces Radio in Viet Nam was a lot better than the radio on Guam. That was a time when a lot of good songs were coming out. I heard "All Right Now" and "Lola" for the first time there.
Adrian Cronauer, the guy immortalized in the Robin Williams movie, wasn't on AFR when I was there, he was a little earlier. But he ended up in Roanoke working as a DJ on an easy-listening station, while I worked for another easy-listening station. I'm not sure I ever really met him, but we probably passed through some of the same parties since we were in the same social milieu. 1972, 1973 ... I know I went to plenty of parties then but I don't remember much about them.

I knew Webb would know more about Paul R. and Free then most of us... he is Full Fledged Founder of the Rock-N-Roll Justice League...and as I recall a fan of Free. I don't think I've heard that tune Webb - its possible I could have and don't remember it... maybe you can play me a snip-it of it for me at the DH... and I do recall you mentioning the Paul Rodgers DVD - love to watch that sometime - he is such a great singer - I'll try to pick up on it.
Question for Webb -- do you like him (Paul Rodgers) singing with Queen... I think its a decent match - no way to replace Freddy Mercury though.... he was a little odd - but wrote great music / tunes and a darn good singer in his own right... but gone too soon.
