Subject: Gas Prices...
Just wondering what gas prices are for everyone....Some full service stations, (yes full service), I thought that type of service went by the way side the same time the 8 tracker players went off the market, in downtown Chicago for premuim are at $4.79.9 a gallon, non full service prices at $3.99.9. Out in the 'burbs, where I live, regular unleaded $3.39.9 a gallon..yikes!!!! I hope this doesn't hamper Webb in making the rounds this year....I'm willing to throw a in a few extra bucks towards Webb to help in covering transportation cost next time around......

Right now most stations (here in central Nebraska) are at about $3.199/gal, self service here. The full service stations are pretty much the way of the dinosaur. I guess most people around here are either farmers or they work with the farmers and getting a little gas on them wouldn't hurt them and could possibly improve the aroma. Ha! I'm kidding. (I work in the farming industry myself.) But there are few that don't physically work for a living and pumping gas is no big deal.

I filled up today at $3.139 at the Sheetz down the street from my office. Roanoke usually has pretty good (relatively) prices; there are three pipeline terminals in town or nearby.

Its hit or miss here in KC. The lowest this week is $3.15 a gallon. Shop around. It can go up from $3.10 in the morning to $3.19 in the afternoon at the same station. From Raytown to Excelsior Springs where my folks live it can vary as much at $.10 a gallon. Go figure. 35 miles apart. Part greed part reality. And I don't take green or red pills, and I do shave my legs and underarms.

I say: With gas prices the way they are, the most economic thing to do is march TO Washington and then march ON Washington. Or at the very least, we should carpool.

"Colin, what percentage of that is taxes?"

About 90% between fuel tax and VAT.
Just a slight correction to Colin's figures - US and imperial gallons are different, and there's only 3.785 litres to a US gallon.
Even so, 3.785 X $2.18 is still $8.25.

Its just about 45 miles one way for me to work....almost all highway for me....then to make matters worst, I hit 2 tolls each way at .40 cents each....a buck sixty per day to pay for the Illinois tollway system, which if anyone has ever driven one of the many toll roads in Illinois, the roads are in awful condition, potholes that can swallow a car, OK maybe not that, but can really do a number on a rim.... and along with gas at 3.49 now a gallon...its a no win situation.....maybe it will get better......

Out...

D'oh! Got me, KM.

I did look up UK gas taxes on Wikipedia and (assuming it's accurate) it claims you pay something like a 188% overall tax on gasoline. In other words, you pay nearly the same as the U.S., including our taxes... then more than double it again, using taxes alone.. Ouch!

Debb, I am the conductor on this Amtrak excursion, so I say where we stop. We stop at all Webb shows. In fact, we transport the fellows to the venues, enjoy the music, load up the band and their belongings, and go on to the next place. It's a very important mission.
