We got to see Radney Foster and Bill Lloyd at a Wood House Concert on Saturday. Just the two of them. They kicked ass. Great guys and ling-time Friends Of Webb.
I had heard that they often mention Webb before they play "Crazy Over You", their first and biggest hit. Near the end of the show, Bill stepped up to the mic and told the story of how they went to hear the Beatnecks at Vanderbilt University when they were struggling to write songs. They were so inspired, "filled by that Rockabilly spirit" as Bill said, they went right back to their office (where there was air conditioning) and wrote "Crazy Over You". Their rocket to '80s Country Stardom was lit.
Talking to them afterwards as they signed a copy of that first LP, Bill pointed out that the credits on the back cover say "Radney Foster sings lead and background vocals, plays acoustic guitar and wears glasses when he needs 'em."
It was pretty cool.
