Subject: The Irritants - Favorite opener for mediocre headliners
I participated in a jam this past weekend and the incessant noodling and doodling between tunes made me think up this Spinal Tap sort of band:

The Irritants

Noodles on guitar.
Doodles on bass.
Crash on drums.

They come out on stage and don't play any actual songs. They just noodle and doodle on fragments of songs that they almost know how to play, until the audience gets sick of them and boos them off the stage, thus ensuring a warm enthusiastic welcome for the headliners.

You could think of them as the Washington Generals of music.

They'd probably command a pretty high fee for their services, and they could even have multiple Irritants bands playing all over the country, with random players filling the roles of Noodles, Doodles, and Crash.

The jam actually went very well and I had a lot of fun. But, I swear, that constant noodling and doodling between tunes can get to be awfully nerve-grating.

Well, Otis, in the case of Saturday's jam, you'd have had to wait to collect until Doodles the bass player got done ALMOST playing the intro to "Too Rolling Stoned" for the ten-bazillionth time. He might have had a chance of getting it right if he hadn't insisted on trying to play it at a tempo of about a million beats per second.

Sounds like a great idea for a franchise business, Glom!

@Otis,
>> that Doodles owes me money!

And Noodles is already kind of busy with "The Offspring."

The idea has merit though, IMHO. Webb's 'tween-song wanderings are my favorite part of a WW show!
