I'm looking to potentially get a guitar that I'm going to get setup for open E tuning. Since you have some experience in this area, is there anything special that I should be looking for? (Bolt on or set necks, bridge design, etc.) What do you use?
I was thinking about getting a deluxe tele or something similar. What are your thoughts?
Of course, I open this question up to the loving guitar-pickin' public.

Teles are great for all sorts of applications and adaptations. I think that would be fine. In the case of E tuning everything either tunes the same or goes up so, the tension and scale length are not issues. With G tuning which Keith Richards has used so much, you can still use a 24 and 3/4(most popular Gibson models) or a 25 and 1/2 (strats and teles) but, some of the strings are tuned DOWN so, the Fender (strats, teles, Jazzmasters) might work the best...Gibsons are not a deal breaker on either. Wouldn't recommend a Jaguar, Byrdland, ES 350 T, Mustang orDuo sonic, etc. for G tuning. WW

When you play onstage, what guitar do you use for your open stuff, and what makes you pick that one instead of another?
Just trying to get inside the head of people who know more about this stuff than I do.

I tend to use teles for it cuz I tend to use teles anyway and they do work great. I have used a Les Paul Jr. that sounded great also. Keith Richards is kind of the King of open tuning and he tends to use teles and Juniors but, in 1972 he played an old strat in G tuning live for "Brown Sugar." WW

Is there anymore to that interview than the two segments one might find on YouTube?
