Hey Kids,
It's Bugs Bunny's birthday!!!
The official first appearance by the "finalized" version of
America's favorite rabbit took place on July 27, 1940 in the classic
Warner Brothers 'toon "A Wild Hare." His studio biography states that
Bugs was born in on this day in a warren under Ebbets Field, home of
the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers.
A crude prototype Bugs character named "Happy Rabbit" had appeared
some two years earlier alongside Porky Pig in "Porky's Hare Hunt."
Over the next two years, Happy would evolve into Bugs, who would
eventually push the Easter Bunny out of the coveted #1 spot as
America's top rabbit. Hardly surprising, since we all know the Easter
Bunny is a made-up character. And don't go dragging Playboy Bunnies
into this, as they are not really rabbits--although I imagine it
would be lots of fun to hop around with one. Or several.
Bugs still looks like a star after all these years. His carrot diet
keeps him trim, and the fact that his hair (hare?) has always been
grey gives him a charmingly ageless appearance. Bugs denies ever
having had plastic surgery, although there is evidence that he has
been redrawn over the years. Best of all, his nimble mind and
insouciant wit have lost none of their power.

The other day we saw a picture of Foghorn Leghorn (on a T-shirt, actually) and my better half didn't know who that was... !!!
I just about dropped dead right on the spot! Needless to say, I edumacated her about Mr. Leghorn, ASAP.

How can anyone older than 12 not know Foghorn Leghorn? Kids under 12 have an excuse (and piss-poor parents), as it's been at least that long since CBS yanked the Looney Tunes from their Saturday morning lineup. Personally, I think there ought to be a law that requires them to be shown on one of the "free" networks....
(I mean no real disrespect to the better half, but really? I'd really like to know how she avoided Foghorn.)
