I am really wanting a 64 reissue Fender Jazz Bass custom color Sherwood Green with matching headstock.

Well, get out your check book or get lucky! I love a lot of the classic guitars but, in terms of function, versatility, features and all that...the "tele" layout is hard to beat for me. A "set neck" tele with some really primo PAF type humbucking pickups could be nice but, that kind of hybridization always runs the risk of being a "neither fish nor fowl" situation. WW

A very cool instrument...but with my current neck problem, I may never hang it over my shoulder again.
It sure is pretty though, with the sunburst finish and the band signatures on the pickguard.

I guess I'm greedy cause I've got several. Starting with a '59 Les Paul in sunburst, an ES-335, Gretsch 6120, '72 Tele Thinline, and one I've actually got to play, a Peavey Cropper Classic, which is kind of a Tele on steroids!! If anyone has any of these and wants to send me one, just knock me for my address.Lol!!!

A Super Classic snare drum in black oyster pearl finish was my first instrument, loaned to me by my dad's friend "The Mouse", who was a drummer in the Naval Academy band.

It figures that a non-drummer but major-league gearhead like you would recognize "Ringo-style" as meaning "Super Classic in black oyster pearl". Cool.

I'd have to say that although I'd really like a "Ringo" set, my very favorite finish is the Champagne Sparkle which was on the "Hollywood" set that was featured on the cover of the Ludwig catalog that I spent so much time studying in 9th-grade percussion class.

My drums are mid-'70's Slingerland in "Champagne Satin".

I guess the only way I could get one would be Fender Custom Shop. Finding an original would be a needle in a haystack....let alone VERY expensive.

I am lucky to have held onto my old guitars that I picked up in the late 70's/80's when I was determined to "make it" as a musician. My favorite for over 30 years now is a '63 SG TV model, and is one of two guitars that I will own until the day I die, the other being my Martin HD-28, so I am lucky to say that I already own my dream guitar, out of a collection that includes about thirty guitars. You can never have too many tho (funny, I can't get my wife to understand that)!

I'd LOVE to hear more about some of the guitars you have, Webb. I've heard you have a discerning eye for the vintage gear.

While we're talkin' about instruments, what's the scoop on that light-blue Strat that Bob plays? They don't usually have the humbuckers...

Bless you all, but a great turntable, reel to reel, technology to burn it all to CD digital would be my dream technology.

That looked like a new Fender Strat that was released not long ago, Fender offers various pick-up configurations these days, usually on their guitars produced in Mexico/Korea, including humbuckers. I am pretty sure I saw the same guitar when my wife and I went to Chicago to see Webb and the band play at Fitzgeralds in January.

Most touring acts won't haul their vintage gear on the road, as too many things can happen beyond your control, so they will get fairly inexpensive guitars to use for road guitars. There are a number of notable exceptions to this, of course, but the overall quality of guitar manufacturing has gotten to the point that even the lower cost models are *very* playable instruments (or can be tweaked to the point of being usable by a compentent guitar tech), especially if you are running a backline that includes any sound processing at all. They might not have the "mojo" that some of us vintage freaks desire, but if you've ever busted the headstock off of a 60's SG because you weren't paying close enough attention in the heat of the moment, you'll quickly learn the value of not using vintage gear on the road (and for the record, yes, I am speaking from personal experience! lol).

One thing I have noticed, and Webb and his band are a great example of this, is that its the player that makes the sound, not the equipment. Have you ever noticed that Webb sounds like "Webb", regardless of what guitar he is playing? While there are certain times you'll need to pick a certain axe to get the sound you are looking for, a lot of that is actually more a mental crutch the musician to get them comfortable for playing, rather than a "necessity" for the song. When I saw Webb at Knuckleheads back a few years ago, I saw him playing (iirc) a Fender Mustang, and some glittery thing that I didn't recognize for most of the set, and he only picked up a Tele a couple of times. When I saw him in January, most of the set was played on his blackguard/Butterscotch Tele with autographs all over it (traditional pick-up config) and on a couple of songs,he played his black Tele with the WW logo on it that is either an early 70's Tele Custom with two HB's or else a replica. I couldn't tell you that either set sounded significantly different, but they both sure sounded like Webb (and awesome at that!).

Sorry if this is straying a bit far from the original posters question about dream guitars, so I will end with this: I'd love to find a real '55-56 goldtop Les Paul. The neck is slightly less chunky that the '57-59's, which feels better to me on a Les Paul, even tho in general, I like chunky necks on my guitars. I doubt I will be ponying up the second mortgage on my house to buy one anytime soon tho. lol
