Subject: Music Project
In my humanities class, I assigned a project for my students to complete. I asked them to bring in one song they remember from their childhood, one song that is a favorite now, and one song from a genre others might find it hard to believe they even enjoy, because it isn't something to which kids their age normally listen. I did the project, too. Here are mine:
From my childhood (the two songs that are from my earliest memory of music): Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) and Rose Garden (Lynn Anderson).
Today's favorite: Hoodoo Witch.
Song some might not believe I like: Poison (Alice Cooper--I just don't carry an eyeball in my pocket like Hunter Goatley does!).
Does anyone want to respond to this assignment?

Good one, Susan!

Actually, I could answer the first and third with the same tune, but I'll save it for #3.

Respectively, then -

Past - Green Tambourine (Lemon Pipers)

Present - while I'm tempted to say "Jump Up!" by the Imagination Movers :-), I'll go with 1979 (Smashing Pumpkins) ... I mean, c'mon Teach, WW songs are too easy here :-)

Oddity - In the Hall of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg) ... hey, I listened to my father's records, and this is the first song I picked up when finally allowed to touch my parents' piano at age 5

Frank, I guess it is a given that there would be a Webb song on my list, but, really, I just love "Hoodoo Witch" more and more all the time. The principal happened in yesterday as students were presenting songs, and he radioed the office to tell the secretary that he was so interested in what was happening in my class that the student waiting in his office at the time could wait just a bit longer. He even said he might come back today and bring his own music. He didn't, though. I bet my principal didn't even do his homework!

Childhood: Fats Domino - Walkin' to New Orleans - My mom had that 45 and I remember putting it on the turntable.
Now: Hard to say. If you mean a "recent" song, then nothing really. I could name an artist: Eli "Paperboy" Reed.
Odd: will have to go with a genre here: bluegrass.
