Just wanted to post about an unusual Wednesday night show. I had a great time at a cool, new show place in Kingsport. The food from the Bone Fire Smokehouse was OUTSTANDING!!! If you are in the Tri Cities area and haven't eaten there, do yourself a favor and go!
The Bus Pit is a brand new venue that used to be the Kingsport city bus garage. I think they have a bright future there after they overcome some growing pains with the sound. A bus garage isn't the most acoustically pleasing place, but I think they will work that out.
It was great to see Webb, Tom, Bob, and Jimmy Lester's stunt double Marshall Richardson. According to Webb, Jimmy has some sick horses, and nothing comes between a man and his horse when it is ailing. Hope all is well Jimmy!! Marshall did a fantastic job in your absence.
It was also great to hang out with the Tri-Cities chapter of the Rock-N-Roll Justice League also known as my gal Susan, Eric, Frank, Yardmaster Randy, Ginger and company, Greg King, and other folks that I recognized but can't remember names.
The setlist:
Big Time The Only One Human Cannonball Rough Rider Come Around Stay Out of Automobiles Honky Tonkin' (in Mississippi) Too Cool For Love Sudden Stop Changing Colors Ju Ju Man Don't Slander Me Loud Music
Slow Death She's Not Romantic Sputnik Pretty Is Just Had To Laugh Still Water Runs Deep The Rest Will Take Care Of Itself Hoodoo Witch Ain't That Lovin' You, Baby Bob Williams...I mean...Jimmy Reed (is the king of rock and roll) Baby, Please Don't Go Tough It Out
Encore:
Devil's Right Hand JUMPIN' JACK FLASH!!
Thanks again to Webb Wilder and the Beatneck Mountain Boys for a great night of music and fun. Y'all are the best!

Sounds like the Webb Board was well respresented in Kingsport! I definitely like the current set lists the guys are using. I look forward to seeing them in KY and St. Louis next week.

I can't wait to be a Full Grown Man! | Well, I'm only going to agree with about half of what Tony said ... 'cause I could only hang around for the first set ... :-)
With my Far Better Half out of town, I felt I shouldn't abuse the generosity of the friend at our house watching the grandbaby for a little while so Pappaw could go get his WW fix (and less than 10 minutes from home ... sweet!)
At any rate, sounds like I missed a killer second set and encore ... crud ... oh well, I guess I'm living down to that derisive "lightweight" name with which I've allegedly been saddled ... oh, and speaking of saddles, I believe it was MINIATURE horses :-) ... yeah, I can just see that .....
But yes, Marshall did a super job ... and you're right, Tony ... I think the Bus Pit is gonna be an interesting little music venue here in town.
Thanks for a great ("partial") show, guys !!!

Schools out for summer and Webb...does life get any better than that????? It was great to have some friends with me who hadn't seen Webb in several years and some who had never had the pleasure. I count it as one of my missions in life to expose all those that I can to the musical geniuses known as Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks. Jimmy's presence was missed for sure, but the show rocked! Can't wait for Knoxville now!

Webb sounded great on all the old favorites and the new ones. I enjoyed visting with Eric, Susan & Tony and Frank. I wonder how many guitar jacks and plugs Bob wears out each year with all the swapping he does...Marshall did a great job filling in on the drums..he didn't answer a cell phone once. Tom sure has a lot of sparkle in that bass...and that's was just his playing.

I myself had to go shopping at Eric's Boutique and Webb Wilder Memorabilia Emporium to have something clean to wear after a run-in with some BBQ sauce last night. Eric might have given us a deal on a bulk purchase. :-) Susan

We had our first dance at our wedding (5/15/2009) to it. It was the perfect end to our honeymoon. Thanks Again Webb!! As for the Bus Pit, it is the best thing to happen to Kpt in the last few years. It is much needed. We plan to do everything we can to support it. We have already told all our friends how cool it is. LOVE MR & MRS SHAWN HURST!!! KINGSPORT, TN

You two looked so sweet dancing together at the show the other night. "The Rest Will Take Care of Itself" really is a great song; however, if Tony and I ever reach the nuptials phase, our first dance (yeah, right) will be to something even more romantic: "Hoo Doo Witch." Won't that be a sight to behold?

"Whip that boy and you'll answer to me!" | The Bus Pit was an enjoyable show to say the least - sure the sound there is a work in progress - but as always the true professionalism of Webb and the Gang - played through them and put on a great performance. Good to see everyone, Susan, Tony, Yard, Frank....etc. always fun to be with the Wilderian family members. Had a blast at the Swag table too... we sold tons of merch. especially new albums - nearly an entire box gone - sweet. It was great meeting lots of other folks - like the newlywed Hursts.... y'all are a blast. Saw a few folks who said hello to me that were at the last Webb Fest in Asheville ... so, a fun time in the Model City on Wednesday. By the way guys, loved hearing the new songs live - played nearly every new song off the album (see Tony's set list). Great hearing Hoodoo Witch ... sounds better and better the more it gets played live... glad it is back in the set list. Of course, "Big Bob" Williams really takes over on Jimmy Reed ... my goodness he can play - I find myself watching his guitar the entire song - just to see what will come out next.... fantastic. I only recall hearing She's not Romantic - live once before - and Wed. night it had this Buffettesque or beach feel to it... thought it was really cool. And in case you hadn't heard - Steve Mims was filming music videos for WW last week in GA. Guess what Romantic was one of the songs and they have made an awesome video - with a beach feel...!!!! Happy Summer -- check out the video here on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb6rmP9-kbQ Thanks to Webb and the Boys again - Marshall you did an awesome job as Jimmy's stunt double - Tom was the Fuzz box master again on a few tunes ... got the last word on one particular song using the fuzz tone.... cool. Til the next live show - E "Swag Recruit"

"Whip that boy and you'll answer to me!" | I'll have to send my photos to Hunter but here is a link to some pics taken in Kingsport by one of the locals in the area - and a friend of mine who added to it... good shots. http://picasaweb.google.com/shutterbugusa When he took the pics of the audience behind the stage - he was up almost in the rafters looking back at us ... but you can see a good crowd - front row center - you see myself (in Webb Fest III shirt), Susan (in white ICFN t-shirt she bought to replace her BBQ stained shirt ...lol) , Tony (in his Train Engineer uniform) and the Yardmaster Randy beside him in the white WW Tee (also BBQ stained I think).... Notice the actual city bus that had been converted to a working bar... pretty neat little place - that was almost full to its capacity... we could have squeezed a few more in if need be... E

It looks like there were a lot of pretty girls there too. That's why Frank had to go home early! I do have one question that puzzles me though. How many gallons of gasoline does it take for the Beatnecks to put on a show now? It looked like Big Bob Williams had at least 15 gallons of high test in front of his guitars!

But ... I mean with that monster camera it was hard to see around it - and with that conservative shirt you were wearing - how could I miss you. Goober tried to sneak in when they raised the doors but since he was barefoot too - it just wasn't happening. Fun night - good seeing all the Webb Heads !!
