I was listening to a radio station in Des Moines, Iowa today. A commercial came on that started, "He's the last of the full grown men..." This got my attention as maybe you were coming to town. They went through the whole rap about being "boarding house people" etc. Imagine my surprise when the commercial ended with, "He's Jack Espperson, drive time on 100.3 The Bus."

If you haven't sold them the rights to this, they are ripping you off word for word.

Thought you would want to know.

After being a little curious about this, I looked this guy up. His name is Jack Emerson and that ain't all he is using. Look at his words of wisdom at the bottom left.

Now I realize that plagerism is a bad thing - we may even have to get one of our resident attourneys looking into this - BUT - did anyone think that maybe he's a big fan and this is his way to honor our hero.... could be that when someone asks - where do you come up with that stuff - he can say it's not mine - but a great singer, songwriter, Rock-n-Roll superman known as Webb Wilder -- and possibly that he plays a little WW music on his show... spreadin the word rather then rippin' him off. I guess we'll see - could be he's friends with Webb and thought it might be cool to use his lines to promote his on air character...etc.

Just playin' the devils advocate here folks .... But, if he's just rippin' off the man - just to promote his own self ... then we need to take him out to the woodshed.

I've been listening to this station for several months (the [ickings are kinda slim here). They have never given attribution to Webb and have never played any of his stuff.

How dare he! Now our beloved Webb is a victim of blatant plagiarism!

I just typed a letter to the station manager where Jack Emerson works. I plan to mail the letter tomorrow.

It reads, "Work hard, rock hard, eat hard, sleep hard, grow big, wear glasses if you need them." I am not sure whether he is claiming that this is an original idea on his part; however, I can say for certain that there is no credit given to the true author of this quote: Webb Wilder. BTW, if it's cool with Webb and his people, I'll gladly fire off a a kind and respectful letter as well. Might even send one to the local papers. Webb's worked too hard for too many years to not get even get credit for his intellectual property. Mr. Emerson might be a friend and a fan, but the very least he could do is add "As the great Webb Wilder says..."

That, and come up with his own material.

What he wrote is all fine and good, but personally, I would still like to see the use of "LOTFGM" and the Credo properly attributed.

I suggest we all wait until Webb returns from his working cruise. He may be OK with what's going on, who knows? (or maybe not, again, who knows).

Dude,

The little blurb on your blog about Webb Wilder was great, but the fact remains that you quote his credo in your "bio" without attributing it to him.
Nice thought, but your "apology" is going to drop from the site in a few days and the credo, looking like YOU thought it up, will still be there.
Do the right thing and tag his name to the end of the credo.

Be a man about it.

What I wrote to the station:

Mr. Emerson, thank you very much for hearing out all the Webb Wilder fans who wrote to you. The message you put in your blog says a great deal about your character. We Webb fans are serious in the support we lend to the object of our dedication and admiration, and we in no way wanted to see him not get the appropriate credit for the credo and the phrases in your radio spot. I do appreciate your explanation as to how you discovered Webb; however, I would like to see you do one more thing: Credit Webb Wilder by adding his name at the end of the credo. Thanks!

Jack has seen the light!

The website now says "Abide by the Webb Wilder credo..." before quoting it.

To his credit, Jack did respond to the Call of the Wilder Fans. Time to declare an end to hostilities, maybe even write him a nice letter or two.
