This was my first "Webb Fest" and I have to say, the best performance I have seen. The enthusiasm of the band and the crowd was phenomenal. I have to say I feel very blessed to have met so many nice people through this board.
To everyone who made tonight happen -- THANK YOU! We are just getting back now... gotta rest up to post my partial set list tomorrow. :-)

Webb, Bob, Tom & Jimmy were Rockin the house last night. The Grey Eagle was a great place for the fest. The red beans and rice from the kitchen hit the spot as well as the Nehi peach and Nehi grape to quinch my thirst. Job well done Eric and Tater. Bob Williams gets me everytime with those licks on "Jimmy Reed" and with Webb's soulful singing I get transported back to a different place and time to "The Big Boss Man".

Folks, the show was hot but I'm telling the entire class that the 2nd Set was smokin' all the way. I kept turning to Tony and Susan and saying "That's my favorite song!". . . It was heavy on Doo Dad and that is always cool beans. . . Bob did in fact kick ass and take names on Jimmy Reed. Wish I had a CD of this show. . .
I enjoyed seeing y'all last night again. The place is kewl and the sound was great!
Thanks to Eric, Tater, Steve Mims (who I kicked around with), and of course Gracias to the Last of the Full Grown Men. . .

A big thanks to everyone who helped, participated, played music on the stage and grooved to said ear candy from the floor of the caberet. Thanks to The Grey Eagle also, I have seen several shows there and it's a great room for such. ( Good grub too )
It was good to see a bunch of you again and it was good to meet Peter Cooper ( Fine musician, songwriter, Todd Snider Cohort and music journalist for The Tennessean ).
Webb and Co, were in fine form regardless of the fact that Webb broke his "Oooooo".
I arrived a might late after having a wonderful meal at Bistro 1896 in Pack Square. ( its hard to get good food fast )
We were in time, however, for the start of the fine musical renderin's and I'm certainly glad of that. I'm sorry I missed the latest offerings from Mr. Mims but, I did see Scattergun in it's earlier form at Webb Fest Uno. I snagged three copies of the new DVD which I'm itching to view.
I'm glad Bristol and surrounds were well represented, it was nice to meet some fellow, local Webb supporters.
The T-shirts are awesome !
I wish I had been there sooner for more visitating. Asheville is a great place for Webb Fest or any other musical mischief.
Super job folks ! Thanks Webb ! Happy Birthday Nancy !
Webb Wilder '08, we need a leader like Webb now, more then ever.

I haven't been monitoring this board as diligently as usual due to many issues, work, etc.
I was saddened to hear about the departure of Snake. I met him a few times at Webb shows, Webb Fest I, etc. I didn't know him as well as some but, it was obvious to me that this man was one of the good guys. He will be missed but forever will live on in the hearts and minds of Webb Fans and others who knew him.
My condolences, be they late, go out to friends and family of this fine fellow. The circle of life continues...

"Whip that boy and you'll answer to me!" | First and foremost ... THANKS !!!! to everyone who came out ... a big THANKS to Mike, Dori, Tommy Lee, Pammy Lee, Susan, Tony..... the list goes on that helped out this year in whatever capacity. Thanks to my brother from another mother - Tater, we pulled if off again this year buddy !!!!! He'll chime in tomorrow probably but speaking for him let me just say we appreciate all the compliments from you guys .... it's our pleasure putting this thing together - celebrating all that is Wilder.
I big shout out and thank you to Webb and the band ... what a show.... loved the 2nd set - Garland and I agreed after the show what a great set it was -- loaded with Doo Dad material as he mentioned above.
Hope everyone had a great time ... enjoyed the prizes we gave away - including the autographed guitar.... sure was fun being a part of bringing you the FESTivities.
Thanks to Mr Steve Mims for coming in from TX to show us the updated version of "Scattergun" and be a part of the release of the all new DVD with the original WW movies -- and the new shorts that were filmed in route to Webb Fest 2 last year are great -- we previewed "Life in the Van" for the crowd - funny stuff aboard the Econoline.
Tater and I started this show so all us dedicated Webb Heads could get together and enjoy one big show together... and it makes a Webb Show and even better show sharing it with all our new friends. Great meeting all the "Board Members" that I haven't met before and seeing those again that I knew already.... really wished we could spend more time just socializing - we'll try to make that happen next time... so if I didn't get to say hello -- my apologies -- hope to see you soon.
I guess the planning begins for next year.................

You can tell Son of Amy that "Cannonball" is a standard but "The Only One" doesn't always make the play list. I freaked on The Only One--great song on the album and really cool to hear live.
That 2nd set confirmed my long-held belief that Doo Dad is Webb's greatest album. It is a crying shame that it is not available in some kind of Deluxe Full-Grown Edition.

Mike and Dori, you all did a great job with everything. It is always fun to see you two. Hope it isn't as long between visits next time.
It was great to see Garland, Dolly, Miss Missy from O-HI-O and her fantastic little girls, Mrs. Eric and family, Christina and her mom, Brilliant Nancy, Tommy Lee and Pammy Lee, Yardmaster Randy, my buddy Collin, and finally getting to meet MotherBear.
I had the privilege of meeting Tom Comet's lovely wife Amy, who did some strategic balloon moving for the photographers in the crowd. Great meeting you!
Great to see Steve Mims again. I really like Scattergun. Can't wait to have a copy for myself. I thought "Life in the Van" was fantastic!! Great stuff!
What else can be said about WW and the Beatnecks? They absolutely ROCK! I went to the back of the room to shoot some pictures and the sound was fantastic! I was happy to see Bob Williams get a standing ovation during "Jimmy Reed". This guy is the real deal. TOM COMET RULES!! The runs you put in King of the Hill kill me every time. Good stuff!! Jimmy Lester is what every drummer should be. Awesome! Top all this off with the ultimate front man, Webb Wilder. I really liked hearing you do "Is Anybody Going to San Antone" during sound check. Hope to hear that again sometime.

| 17. On Monday, October 13th, 2008 at 12:15PM Revolt Into Style (a member) replied: Revolt Into Style Member Since: June 2007 The Fresh New Sound Of Yesterday The Fresh New Sound Of Yesterday | It was for sure a great night! More like a family reunion than a rock show - except for that it ROCKED! I'm ashamed to admit that I still don't have "About Time" and the last time I saw Webb & The Beatnecks at The Grey Eagle he didn't play it; but I was "gobsmacked" - as our British friends say - over hearing "Jimmy Reed Is The King Of Rock N' Roll!" I can only say that was one extreeeeemely "wicked" number!!! Bob Williams was simply amazing on that number and, heck, all night long! A real PLAYER'S PLAYER. What a treat to hear him on guitar weaving with Webb.
Speaking of weaving. Right now I've been in a Stones phase for a couple of months. It started with watching "Shine A Light" and quickly spilled over to Ron Wood's scary autobiography. Then I moved onto "Stoned" and "2Stoned," by the inimitable Andrew Loog Oldham. To have the band cap it with "Jumping Jack Flash" was a real treat seeing as to how I would never see The Stones in concert (way too much of a hassle - I don't do stadiums) but dig 'em lots. Best of all, Webb doesn't have to fake the accent!
Megakudos to the people who put this all together! My wife used to book business meetings for Hyatt Hotels and she was -very- impressed with how smoothly and professionally it all came off! I mean, WW Kustom Kupcakes (tm) in chocolate AND vanilla??!! Do any of you do this for a living in "real life?" If not, consider event planning as a career path, because you smoke 90% of the people charging for it!
I didn't know Snake, but I was impressed that his family showed up to accept the honors dedicated to such a major fan. You could tell he was a missed presence at the show this year. It really is the World Of Wilder! We just live in it!
And finally, after much talk, I got to see "Scattergun!" And I'm happy that Mr. Mims saw fit to remove the color, because a P.I.'s world has only shades of gray! It seems in each film the characters get more sophisticated. I would imagine that the 4th WW film would be a lot like "The Sweet Smell Of Success!" "The cat's in the bag - the bag's in the creek!"
Keep 'em flying until next year, my fellow Webb-heads!

You are what you is! | Id like to thank everyone for the kind words. It takes a lot of good folks to make these events happen and happen well. We have a bunch of those good folks right here on this Board. First Eric and I would like to give some credit to those who helped us financially:
Tony King and Susan - Hotshot Roots Rock Photographers in stereo! Tommy (Lee) and Patrice Lippert (Pammy Lee), my personal philosophical gurus. Garland Baker - you never know when you need an attorney at these things! Debbie Elliot (Mother Bear) Linda Fay (even though she couldn't attend and (with Larry) sent gifts. Mike and Dori McCalvin - They also provided many excellent gifts, cup cakes, balloons, raffle ticket sales, set up, follow up and everything else possible to ask of someone.
Many of the same folks showed up to help set up the Grey Eagle and even assisted in Roadie Duty for the band. It was a great evening for everyone. The Band outdid themselves, especially on the second set. I believe Webb and the Beatnecks give us their best show of the year at Webb Fest. Bob Williams gets better all the time, if that's even possible. He was already great on the guitar when I first saw him. Jimmy Reed causes chills and goose bumps when Bob plays it! Webb is no slacker on the guitar either. I believe they compliment each other on stage to our immense benefit! Thanks guys. What can you say about Tom Comet (who rules!!!!) and his lovely wife Amy? They're just fine folks. Jimmy Lester was in fine form as he always is.
Steven Mims once again came and delivered the goods, both literally and figuratively. The new DVD is a fine collection of fine stuff you could only buy on eBay before. Scattergun was re-edited and tweaked and put into black and white. I can't wait to own one!
The SWAG Czar made some beautiful shirts for us and there are plenty left to sell on the Board. The DVDs are now for sale too, I think!
Rob and Nancy Lewis Pegel always put forth a great effort and try not to take any credit for their efforts but we could'nt do it without them both. Thanks for being there for us!
Bill Longworth accepted a fully signed (by everyone in attendance, including the Band) 8-foot Webb Fest Banner and both set-lists on Snake's behalf. Snake will always be with us in spirit at these events!
Mike Omatic does more than you folks know in setting up this event and does it on the QT. Thanks for keeping Eric and me honest Mike!
I'd also like to thank my cohost Eric McCracken. You help me worry about what could go wrong and are always ready and willing to help share the blame! Thanks Buddy!
Thanks again to everyone for helping, attending and participating. Thanks to everyone who came up to me and introduced themselves so I can put a face to the names. I got to see Christina see some of her song requests fulfilled live and in person!
We don't know yet where we will be next year and we may even do a post on this Board to get some input from you all before we pick a place.
Lastly, I'd like to thank Dolly (Sweet Tater or as Webb calls her "Lady au Gratin") for allowing me, and supporting me, in planning and financing this important event. Same goes for Mr. and Mrs. Eric McCracken. After all, behind every good man is a woman who is generous enough not to have killed him for the stupid things he does or is about ready to do, on a regular basis!

Getting there early on Friday and staying at the Daze Inn right downtown really paid off (although I hear the Mountaineer is a mighty charming place). Never had to move the car at all, thanks to Tom and Amy, Christine and her Mom for the rides to and from the show! We walked all over the area and had some fine meals-of course the food at the Gray Eagle kicked ass as well. Lots of characters on the street, thought I saw Carl Childers but it was some OTHER guy with a sling blade knife. Jeez. Got to spend some time with a bunch of our friends, old and new...a special shout out to the Amazing Tater Tots!
We loved the show as much as everyone else. Webb really sang his heart out. I was extra-impressed with Jimmy, he was really bashing away back there! All four were also at the top of their form for the hard-core fans, loved the tone Bob got from that cheap...pardon me...collectable guitar supplied by Tater as well as his usual collection. Tom sounded really strong and clear, inspired by the namesake action figures propped up nearby
Tater and Eric, you guys really know how to throw a party! We are so happy to have been a small part of it and look forward to doing it all again next year wherever the winds of chance take us. In the Continental USA, that is.

I also got to meet Eric - we had a nice visit, Tater, Deb's girls, Revolt, No Great Shakes, Steve Mims, Nancy & Rob, Yardmaster and others I can't seem to put names to right now. The band was gracious with their time as always, too. Thanks, Webb, Jimmy, Tom, & Bob. What a night! The guys were absolutely on fire! I was blown away several times. Slow Death, Rough Rider, the Charlie Rich song & Poolside among others had me dancin' in my seat, but after Jimmy Reed the hair was standing up on the back of my neck. I said to my sis, Gloria, "That is absolutely the best I have EVER heard the guys play this." She said,"This is the best live version I have EVER heard, by ANYONE." We have another convert, folks!
Tater, Eric, Dori & Mike, Nancy, Linda & whoever else had a hand in this show.....Thank you so much!
Linda Faye: Eric tells me that my door prize came from you - "or rather her ex-husbands' car". That's a tale I'd like to hear "the rest of the story" sometime.
Catch you all later, Jo | |

I think I can get that done, providing it's not on Shabbos. You see, my crazed Vietnam buddy is quite anal about that!

Just back from our magnificent trip to Peru, we raised lots of money for the hospital and foundation. Didn't get back in time to head out to Austin for the film stuff today. You can check out our trip at the website www.perurocks.org, it was awesome! What's this about bowling shirts? I want one! What about the DVD that was going to be available at the fest, will it be on sale through the website?
