With the Kingsport show that is upcoming outdoors, do you use a different setup of amps and effects or just stick to the tried and true?

The "tried and true" has a few variations. Part of it depends on what I feel will work best for the string of dates we're doing when there's more than one show on a run. For instance, if we have to do an outdoor show and a real small club gig on the same run, I'll probably have a one twelve instead of a two twelve cabinet. The one twelve would have a speaker with some pwer handling so I could use the Hiwatt with it. It would also move less air which would be better in the small room. If the two twelve is what I have out with me, it is certainly what I prefer in a setting where it's not too much. Hope that makes sense. I've used my Hiwatt head for years but, in the last coupla years, I've used a Fender Bassman head for some of the smaller rooms. I've tried everything imaginable at the Down Home in Johnson City. The littlest amp you can get away with is the best for that room. I used a Fender Princton Reverb into a one twelve cab last time. Before that it was a Vox AC 15 witha Celstion Vintage 30 in it. Both were borrowed. I think I liked the AC 15 best for that room but, would possibly prefer a little different speaker for the Down Home. So many amps, so little time... WW

What do you think in general of that V30 speaker Webb? I had one in my 1x12 combo, but traded for a greenback. I found the v30 had too much midrange "honk" especially with a strat.

The V30s have served a purpose for a long time because they give that Celestion sound but, handle more power (they are 60 watt speakers) than a greenback (25 watts) and don't go into totoal breakup quite as fast. A lot of people are tired of the midrange thing you mentioned. I have been tryin' a Scumback speaker in my 1 x 12 that is rated at 100 watts but, has the character of a pre-Rola greenback. I like it. My favorite speakers are my old creme back G12 M's(25 watts) in my 2 x 12 but, ya gotta have two of 'em if yer gonna put any watts to speak of through them. I also fear they could go anytime as I have rocked 'em pretty hard for over 20 years and they were used when I got 'em! I do like the bottom of the the V30 but, they are kinda honky and have some abrasive, scooped, upper mid stuff sometimes, too. They say the Emminence Wizard sounds like a higher power handling Celestion G12H (a good 30 watt speaker and close to my old ones) but, I have not heard it. Bob Williams likes the 80 watt Celestions. Have you tried any of the tonetubby or weber speakers?

Scumbacks are what all my Celestion friends are going to. They do sound good.

I met Ted Weber when he came to our show in Nashville during the NAMM show. Weber makes the Scumbacks to Scumback's specs. I've not tried the Tonetubbys WW
