Here's the item itself:
Q: I wonder if there are fans out there who wish Cuban would buy the Cubs and sell the Mavs? I hate what was done with Avery. Maybe I'm an army of one.
Jerry C.
SEFKO: In the great words of country-rocker Webb Wilder, you might be lonely for a reason.
As much as Cuban can be a pain to those who work around him, with him, against him and through him, it can't be argued that he's been a poor owner. He spends money and truly wants to win. Those are great traits in an owner. We've all seen teams that are run the other way, and it takes either great smarts or great luck to overcome a tight or uncaring owner.
Yes, Cuban does things that rub a lot of people the wrong way. But he tries hard to make the Mavericks as good as they can be. And if he buys the Cubs, I'm sure it won't be one month into his first season before he introduces ball girls down the lines that are wearing extremely hot outfits.
By the way, with Avery, it was simply time. He didn't want to coach the team anymore and the players didn't want him to be their coach anymore. In that respect, what he did was not that much different than what Don Nelson did three years earlier.
