Subject: Wilko Johnson
I dont know if Wilko Johnson is well known in the US. Over here he is very much respected as the founding lead guitarist and writer in Dr. Feelgood. (And other bands)
Wilko left the band many years ago but they continue with new members to this day. When Wilko was in the band in the mid 70's they single-handedly brought real Thames Delta blues to the british masses.
Wilko recently announced he has Terminal Cancer and has elected not to recieve chemo therapy. He has scheduled a fairwell tour.
I thought I'd post a link to pay tribute to a true legend of the UK blues. I hope you can see the Youtube clip outside the UK. I remember seeing this in 1975. It was a 'Wow' moment to my young eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rViBFgjChH0

Great. Yeah, I've known about them for years. Very cool. Wilko is/was kind of a Pub sized Townshend with his mid air antics it would appear. Isn't there a film about him.them, too? Thanks. WW

Wow- very sorry to hear about Wilko. The man certainly could flail the hell out of a Tele. I first heard of him a few years ago on a motorcycle forum when someone posted a link to this thread of Wilko's Telecaster being restored:

I forget the whole story, but IIRC the guitar had been retired to a closet years ago when it was pretty much worn/damaged to the point of not being playable. This a very neat video of the restoration process.

Here's another good video of Wilko I ran across yesterday. It was apparently taken last year. He demonstrates his unique guitar technique, and tells a few stories:

According to Wikipedia, he had a recurring role on the HBO series "Game of Thrones" as an executioner. He certainly looks the part!

Fantastic! I kinda remember seein' him on GOT. The Mick Green he alludes to (as many of you may know) is a real guitar god in the UK having distinguished himself wowing audiences with seminal Brit rockers Johnny Kidd & the Pirates. He was playin' with Van Morrison in the '90s. Wilko mentions him playing with Englebert Hunmperdinck. JK & the Pirates HUGE influence on the Who, Dr. Feelgood and countless others. Thanks! WW

I saw the Pirates, without JK, they were amazing. So much noise from 3 guys.
