Got to see and hang out with lots of fellow Webb heads, plus I brought along several friends, 3 of which had never seen Webb live and were all blown away. Plus we got to celebrate Tony's birthday on his big night and Tater's birthday one day early.... which made it even more of a special occasion.
Good to see everyone again - and thanks guys for a great night.

WW was in top-notch form, Bob was en fuego, Tom was Tom (and that's a high compliment), and Marshall was super (but JOC, what was on the little pad attached to his hi-hat stand?) ... and nice to have a tune to whip out while the bass player runs to get a string, huh?
Perhaps Tater or Dori will offer up the playlists ... or maybe Birthday Boy Tony, who walked out with at least one.
And any encore with both G-L-O-R-I-A (which, BTW, Webb, even if it WAS the "worst one you've ever done," it still beat most other non-WW versions we'll ever hear) and Jumpin' Jack Flash is aces with me!

I did come away with a broken Tom Comet Bass string and a couple set lists and got to share a birthday weekend with the King of them all "Tony" that is! The band put on a fantastic show. For Marshall to fit in so well with the seasoned professionals known as Webb, Bob Williams and Tom Comet, speaks well of his abilities. The set lists were: Set One: 1. Big Time 2. Ruff Rider 3. Pretty Little Lights of Town 4. She Don't Come Around 5. Poolside 6. Lookin' for a Fool 7. Human Cannonball 8. The Only One 9. Hittin' Where it Hurts 10. More Like Me 11. King of the Hill (for Tony King) 12. Flat Out Get It! Set Two: 1. Burnin' 2. Wild Honey 3. One Taste of the Bait 4. New Landlord 5. Pretty Is 6. Worried Life Blues 7. Every Day I Kick Myself 8. The Rest Will Take Care of Itself 9. Sputnik 10. It Takes Time 11. Louisianna Hannah 12. She's Not Romantic (while Tom replaced a Bass String) 13. Don't Slander Me 14. Tough It Out Encore: 1. Gloria 2. Jumpin' Jack Flash

There is nothing like a birthday at the Down Home with great music and great friends. The band was in top form as usual. The highlights of the show for me were, of course, "King of the Hill". Tom's bass runs in the chorus of that song kill me every time. This was definitely the best version of "It Takes Time" that I have heard the guys play. The guitar tradeoffs between Bob and Webb at the end were magical and I think the crowd's response confirmed that. My sister and brother-in-law took in their first WW&BTNX show and they were impressed. When Tom broke his "A" string during "Louisiana Hannah", my sister looked at me and said "Bless his heart", but when Tom kept wailing on the E and D strings without stopping, she looked back at me and said "well evidently it doesn't matter".....HA!! Marshall did a fantastic job. It's amazing how a pro like him can fit right into a band even when he doesn't play regularly with them. The encore was awesome as well. I always love Jumpin' Jack Flash, and Webb, even the worst version of Gloria is pretty danged good! Nobody can pull that song off like you! Thanks to everyone for making the big 4-0 a great memory!!

I was the sound guy for the band he was in, and we were playing at a club in Gatlinburg (circa 1980). One of his strings broke during his solo and he got "mad" and played a solo about four times longer than normal. Conversely, I saw Alex Lifeson break a string during a show, and he just stopped playing and threw his guitar off stage and had his tech bring out another one. Completely ruined the song.

| 39. On Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 8:59PM Webb Wilder (a member) replied: Webb Wilder Member Since: July 2003 | Sometimes (especially on wiggle stick equpped strats!) when a string breaks it throws the guitar so far out of tune, that there's not much you can do but, stop playing. A broken bass string can cause a radical change in tension which often leads to this so, TC is to be commended on carrying on admirably through the rest of the song. WW | |
