Subject: Faces/Small Faces in RRHOF
I've just heard that the boys will be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in Cleveland in April next year. Long overdue you may argue but why are the being inducted as a singel entity? surely there are two seperate bands here? Is there any precedent for this. It seems a little strange to me.

I agree that they are two different bands both of whom should be in there and honored accordingly but, I'm glad this is happening. I would prefer it to be two separate honors. WW

Well, The Faces are the only way I'd personally let Rod The Mod within spitting distance of the RRHOF, so he should count his blessings.

Rod is already there as a solo artist, same goes for Jeff Beck. The work they did in the Jeff Beck Group did not go un-noticed by Jimmy Page! I would agree that some of Rod's later stuff was a bit hard to take but for me he has one hell of a Rock voice.

Rod's sellout is only such a huge crime because his pre-sellout contribution is SO cool! His singing on the "Truth" album is arguably the best he ever did but, his Faces era solo albums and the Faces albums are cool without question. His voice is or was one in a million and at one time his songwriting was IMPORTANT. "Truth" (Jeff Beck Group) pre dates the first Zeppelin album. Sadly, the great drummer, Micky Waller (who also played on some of Rod's very best solo stuff) "left the building" a few years ago. Woody's bass playing in the JB group AND on the Stewart stuff is mind blowing. His Faces era guitar playing is one of my favorite things ever not to mention a huge influence. WW

Sigh. Rod, Rod, Rod. The last 35 years have been sad. I'm still shy of 50 and it's staggering to think that as a small child, Rod Stewart was fine rock music but by the time that I was in middle school - faggedaboudit. I thought "Hot Legs" was crass, bottom-feeding rock of the worst stripe. The rest wasn't much better. Hmm. About the same time The Stones were issuing their nadir single, "Hot Stuff." Any other once-great bands issue a track with "hot " in the title that reeked to high heaven?

I like your thinking!
Hot Dog by Led Zep would seem to fit the criteria :-)

How about "Hot Child in the City" by Nick Gilder?

Oh, wait, you said "once great bands." I haven't a clue about any OTHER Nick Gilder material.

Do I still win something?

Rod had Billy Peek (Chuck Berry tour guitarist) with him in late 70s when Footloose & Fancy Free came out, so the guitars were solid at least. The "Hot Legs" guitar solo flat out sizzles. And with Carmine Appice in the band somehow they got Mark Stein to guest background vocal on You Keep Me Hangin On. Not a Rod fan anymore, but yeah Webb his Jeff Beck days were killer too... You Shook Me (sick guitars), Morning Dew, Shape Of Things...

And good to see Faces/Small Faces inducted into the RnRHOF, but here's what I don't get...

"Nominations for the performers category are selected by a small committee and are then voted on by around five hundred experts across the world."

Experts. Maybe that's why Madonna was inducted a couple years ago?
