You don't see much about real-life human cannonballs these days:

A tragic accident:

About the job:

Very tragic, indeed.

RIP un-named Human Cannonball.

My parents took me to a circus when I was 5 or 6 years old.

When we took our seats, once I spotted the cannon and realized that there was going to be a Human Cannonball performance, I didn't want to know about clowns, elephants, lion tamers, or any of that. I just wanted to see that guy fly across the big top.

When they finally shot him off, it was a bit anti-climactic, as there was no loud BOOM!, flash, and cloud of smoke (I didn't realize that the cannon was pneumatic), but it was still cool, and the only thing I really remember about my one visit to a circus.

I was knocked out when Webb released "Human Cannonball". My band started covering it (along with "One Taste Of The Bait" and "Cold Front") and it was one of my favorites to play. I was glad when YouTube came along and I was finally able to see the cool video of it.

The nationally syndicated radio show "Bob and Tom", did a piece on this story this morning, played "Human Cannonball", and mentioned what a great song it is. Sorry for the guy, but glad to see Webb get some international airplay on a Tuesday morning.

Saw my first Human Cannonball at a fair grounds and they shot him outside across the lot into his net.... was very cool. And right no loud boom - but I think he had some sound affect besides what launched him out the tube... I think a wee bit of smoke or fog came out of his too ....
I talked to the guy afterward and he said he was a 2nd or 3rd generation human cannonball... found that interesting - family business so to speak.
