I was at the St. Louis Arena Annex show in 1971 with a couple of college friends. My Mom bought us tickets as a surprise...what a cool gal! We sat next to a group of dwarves (I know that's not politically correct, but they told us "Hey, we're DWARVES!"). They had bags of wine to share and during the show they would sit on their girlfriends' shoulders to see. Really nice guys.
The show was damn good. Dust was a proto-metal three-piece band, the bassist and guitarist kept charging back and forth across the stage, swinging their hair. Hey, they were before their time. PG&E was OK, they were like a West-Coast version of Chicago with a horn section. Alice was outstanding, did a bunch of stunts, got out the python, all that stuff. His band (the original Alice Cooper Band) was really, really good, although the sound was pretty terrible. It was an old metal building with a concrete floor, after all.
We were glad we went. Might even get the box set, I would love to hear that 1971 show... | |

My wife would argue that I've been there for a long time.... ;-) It is a helluva box set. Pretty expensive, but well worth the money, IMO. Great story, Tommy! Thanks for sharing. I was just a tyke in 1971 (well, I was 7). My first Alice concert wasn't until 1979: http://hunter.goatley.com/concerts/1979-03-03-alice.html  I have a ticket to see Alice on May 12 at the Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth, IN.
