Well, it's been 423 days since WW last played in Northern Virginia ... and just 2 to go until the re-appearance.

This years show is @ IOTA in Arlington. My understanding is that we are anticipating a downbeat @ 7:00 p.m.. so don't be late.

Unfortunately, Scott's dad won't be there to help with SWAG this time, being Father's Day and all ... but I hope to see the rest of you milling about the Merch table .... resistance is futile!

See You There,

We stll want you here WW. Maybe someday???

Really, they're not that great.

Why oh why did this have to be on father's day? I'll be up in MD :( But I am making the trek down to Richmond for tonight's concert at the Capital Ale House.

Despite the obstacles - Fathers Day/Early start-time ... a respectable crowd filled the room. Perhaps, a little too respectable --- enthusiastic clap/shout response following each song fading to pin-drop silence, leaving Webb to wax eloquent while simultaneously re-tuning.

Noteable - Tom C proposed a pact among band members promising to never die. I learned that Bob Williams and I share a friend in Dan Strain of "Danocaster Guitars". I learned that Webb's favorite color is "Coke". Finally, I witnessed Jimmy Lester leap like an antelope across the stage when offered (after demanding) an IPA "on the house".
I learned nothing new about Scott. Shout out to the Tater Two who managed to catch all 3 Virginia shows. The set list list below was effectively captured by Mrs. Tater, who passed it on to me:

Big Time
Cannonball
Only One
Rough Rider
Lonely 4 Areezon
Pretty Little Lights
2 cool 4 love
Still Water
(Not) Romantic
Sippi Honky Tonk
Sudden Stop
Loud Music
Hoodoo Witch
Come Around
Ju Ju
Changing Colors
Pretty IS
Don't Slander Me
Slow Death
Tough it Out

Encore:
Who will the Next Fool Be
Baby Please Don't Go

Only issue I have to register is the mere single set ... but it was pushing 9:30 :)

Thanks for making it to the DC area, there's joy in Mudville!

Normally the Iota has excellent sound board work. Unfortunately Webb's voice was drowned out by Bob's guitar most of the night (which was excellent, but it would have been nice to hear some vocals). If they turned the lead guitar down a tad, it would have been perfect (most sound board guys only turn things up). The Flamin' Groovies cover was fun, I had a Rockpile flashback with Ju Ju Man, and Baby Please don't go was en fuego! The banter between songs was amusing even if the crowd wasn't raucous. Fun show, cool new shirt!

The onstage banter was also hilarious at Innsbrook. It seemed like the band thought we couldn't hear them talkin', but we could!

Them guys is funny in more ways than one...

Vocals were present, but too light in the house mix.

Great show.

I thought the vocals were a bit low in the mix, too. I was standing at the back of the room and thought that might have something to do with it. I stood next to the sound board and it was better there, but I thought the vocals could have still been a bit louder. While Webb was asking for a little more bottom on the vocals in his monitor mix, out front it could have used a little less bottom and a bit more overall volume.

But that didn't prevent it from being a really great performance. Really liked the mix of old and new tunes. Very cool covering Roky Erickson and Charlie Rich.

I remember reading an interview with Sam Phillips were he mentioned that of all the musicians he had worked with, the two most talented were Howlin' Wolf and Charlie Rich.

I didn't know they had played in Alexandria earlier that afternoon. We had gone to Alexandria before going to the Iota and saw that there was a festival going on but had no idea that Webb and the band were performing.

Webb - A few details on "Jack". It's a copy of an Electro-Harmonix LPB-1. My brother has a couple of them from the first year of production and I copied the circuit from them. The main difference is that the LPB-1 uses the "mystery" transistor FS36999. Jack uses a NTE123AP, which was listed as a replacement for the FS36999 in one of the data books that we have here at Gasbag Central (check www.tcomlp.com and pick "Gallery"). The other differences are the LEDs, which have no effect on the signal, and the turret board construction, which might be inducing some stray capacitances. And those are "Just the facts."

Glom, that is the coolest (non)stomp box I have ever seen! Jimmy and I went ape when Webb pulled that thing out of the brown paper bag in the van yesterday. The eyes-light-up indicator and using an astray = genius!

Maybe Scott filled in for us in Alexandria- I don't recall being there personally!

While waiting to pick up a copy of the new album, my friend who was just talking with Webb came over and told me that they were sold out of the new album because they had all gone earlier that day at Alexandria. I guess he misunderstood. Sorry about any confusion.

Glad you like "Jack". Packaging it in an ashtray was my guitarist's idea. I was originally going to use a single LED, but then thought that two could be eyes. Then it became a question of whose eyes should they be. Something made me think of Jack Webb and so that's who I went with.

Since Webb's name is also "John", he could conceivably BE "Jack Webb"- has anyone ever seen them in the same room?

Dolly and got back home Monday evening about 6PM after a 1000-mile-three-date-Born-to-See-Wilder Motorcycle tour of Virginia. All three shows rocked. I thought the band was tight and the three different venues all seemed to be full of hard-core Wilderians. I could hear Webb just fine at the Iota club and Dolly and I were off to one side (The Tom Comet Rules-side!) by the front of the stage. Got to meet a couple folks from the Webb Board, including Goes To Eleven. Being near Washington DC makes me appreciate the "Rush Minute" traffic from Beaver, OH where the definition of Road Rage is when someone passes you on the highway and does not wave at you.
