Subject: Gas shortage thread
We keep hearing horror stories about the gas shortage in the South. As WebbFest approaches, we sure would appreciate it if those of you in the afflicted area would let us know what's going on. We're coming from St. Louis. I hear Nashville and Asheville are among the worst spots for gas supplies.

Shut up, Abner.

Susan and I went to Nashville this past weekend and at the one station we stopped at, all they had was regular gas and diesel fuel. On Friday, before I picked Susan up, I just about ran out of diesel fuel. Every station between Erwin and Gray Station was out. I finally found diesel at the truck stop in Blountville at the airport exit. The mileage computer on my car said I had one mile left until I was out of fuel. Needless to say, I was getting concerned.

Sorry about the double post. I just wanted everyone to know how scared I was about running out of fuel.

Really, they're not that great.
Really, they're not that great.
I've been wondering about this myself. Will probably alter my route from DC. Quickest way would be to head down to Raleigh and head west. Thinking I will probably now head towards Roanoake and then head south, filling up in Abingdon or Bristol, VA. That should give me enough to get in and out of NC.

Nashville's on the rebound. The two gas stations I pass on the way to work were completely out of gas week before last. Then last Monday they both got regular in. Now one has regular and mid-grade gas while the other still just has regular. Interestingly enough, I paid 3.69 when the first one got gas, but they're up to 3.87 (was up to 3.89 for a few days). I passed by a few other stations yesterday, and all had at least regular in stock...

Talked to my sis Saturday. She lives just north of Atlanta. She said that IF you could find a place that actually had gas it was $4.50 a gallon and that there was a ration limit of $20. The lineups tend to be 50 car lines and that one lady in labor was begging to be let in for gas to make it to the hospital. No one let her in and she had the baby in her car. She said that even cabs were not exempt and that some companies had already went under. As the airport is so far away from her she's concerned about being able to find transportation from the airport to her and being able to drive to Asheville. She said that the officials claimed 3 weeks ago this would be over, but that it has only gotten worse from then.

I hope that it improves dramatically .... Soon if I am going to make this trip. Tickets were bought months ago, but if I can't leave the airport, it's not very appealling.

Let us travellers know how the winds are blowing.....

Brilliant!
I'm in Atlanta and been doing a surprising amount of traveling these past two weeks. Gas is out there, and the scene is getting better. Atlanta is to be the longest to rebound, maybe even up till next weekend. That said, there IS gas out there. My husband got gas tonight, with hardly a wait in Atlanta. ($4.19) I could have gotten it yesterday with NO wait, but didn't need any. I hear Asheville is almost back to normal. By Webbfest, this will be a distant memory.

Come on out - this once a year event is gonna ROCK!

Nothing but problems in Atlanta north suburbs. I have not been able to get premium in over a week and am down to one more commute. We spent three hours yesteday to get Red some regular.

But, the pipe is back up supposedly and QT says they will have gas at all their stations tomorrow. Just not all grades.

Thanks for all the info, we'll check on the situation again as we get closer to the trip. Looks like things are improving. It won't stop us, that's for sure.

I have noticed Bristol, Virginia, gas prices at $3.58 for unleaded. The highest grade is below $4. Seems that all grades are flowing around here.

On the way home from South of Asheville I noticed that all the stations on Airport Road had gas. Many had more than one grade! The light is at the end of the tunnel! There's got to be a morning after!! Expect to pay $4 for regular.

Premium is $3.19, Regular is $2.99 in spots. Looks like it is on the rise though as some stations have Regular at $3.12. At least we have gasoline. Now that the politicians east of the Mississippi are pointing fingers at each other and at the refineries I bet you all start to get some fuel. Hope so. Webb Fest is only A WEEK AWAY!!!!!

Ok, Atlanta area WW people:

My sis lives in Lawrenceville. Anyone know of a place to get gas there? She is still having a time getting any gas.

Let me know if you can. I am to fly out on Wed and at this point I don't know how we are getting gas to drive up to WebbFest from there.

Thanks, Jo

Good news, according to this Asheville website:

The fuel supply issue in the Asheville area has greatly improved. There are no longer any lines for fuel and the price of gas continues to drop.

Gas seems all over the place now in Asheville. $3.47-$3.69 for regular unleaded. Multiple grades also available. Breathe easy WW fans. If you can make it here, you can make it back to wherever you came from!

Thanks Revolt for the update.... by the way if you pass through Johnson City, TN via interstate 26 on your way to Asheville (and some of the folks might) ... I just saw gas for $3.12 per gallon ... (I paid 3.26 today in Knoxville and thought I got a good price - til I came back towards home)....

So fill up fine folks plenty of gas to go around for a change.

Subject: Asheville's goin' CRAZY!
It's a wild ride here in Asheville. I needed gas yesterday. I passed 2 stations on errand that had regular at $3.50. I work south of Asheville, where prices are generally lower. When I returned to work, the local was all $3.69, so I decided to wait until I passed the aforementioned stations on the way home. Four hours later, these had jumped up to $3.55. One of them only had premium and the other, where I got regular, had a 10 gal limit. I thought, "what th'...!" So I got the $3.55 gas.

This morning prices had plummeted to a low of $3.40, even at stations that had no gas yesterday. The stations where I work were $3.39!

Buy the ticket and take the ride, folks! There's no telling where we'll be tomorrow.
