Less than a week now 'til WW and the guys will be here in our little 'burg ... and to Eric's astonishment, I do still recall the offer I made a few months back, when I first learned of said gig, of a free beverage to those Webbheads who might want to swing by Casa Kibler beforehand ... so, for those of you who are nearby or will wander into town for said occasion, and are amenable to the offer, just email me at runfrankrun@hotmail.com, and we'll talk about directions, details and what not ...

Hey all ... I've heard from a few folks, but I'm confident more of you than that will be here in town Thursday evening ... seriously, stop on by for a while ... we're ~3 miles from downtown, easy to find and an easy shot from here to the show ... email me at runfrankrun@hotmail.com for directions!

Well I guess I'll be the first to post on the big outdoor show in Kingsport, TN. Great concert - as always from the man and the band. Webb was joined by Tom, Jimmy and Bob in what turned out to be a rockin' performance that the huge crowd seemed to really get behind.

Saw lots of fellow Webb heads there... had a pre-show meet and greet at Frank's Place along with Susan & Tony and Frank's 2 cats.... lol. Hung out with Yardmaster at the show and I am pretty sure I saw Big Goober too - looked like he was tired - of course he said he was walking there - so I guess he finally made it ... Judy, Judy, Judy.

Didn't get a set list - I blame Tony, he blames Susan ... and the circle never ends there.... but The King of the Photos did get some great shots - I'm sure Tony will send those in to Hunter (the photo czar) soon enough. We kicked things off with I believe it was Taste of the Bait, and rocked our way thru some great numbers including 3 of the 4 new songs we've heard from WW over the last year and a half - Come Around, Changing Colors and Ju Ju Man. Plus we got rippin' versions of Baby Please Don't Go, Slow Death, and Tough it Out. Bob basically has stolen the song "Jimmy Reed" with his amazing blues riffs .... that is now officially Big Bob William's song - may rename it "Bob Wiliams is the King of Blues Guitar"

Finally after Tough it out - they left the stage but were brought back on by shouts throughout the streets of Kingsport, to which they returned to rock us out with Jumpin' Jack Flash.

Talked to all the guys in the band after the show and Webb Fest did come up in conversation - which I am already excited about, naturally as one of the co-hosts of the show, but mostly since that will be the next time I'll get to be blown away by this great line up of musicians. Folks if you haven't seen this group together yet - I urge you to go see WW in concert whenever he and the Beatnecks are near you.

Bob is the King, Jimmy is the Man, Tom Comet Rocks & Webb Wilder Rules.... see y'all again soon.

Yeah, that was me, Eric. And you're right, I was tired. Sorry I didn't make it to the pre-show doin's. 'Bout the time I got into town, it finally dawned on me I had no idea where I was goin'. I asked this one feller who walks the streets all the time (I think his name was Jack) if he knew where "Frank in TN" lived, and he just looked at me funny. And not "ha ha" funny, neither. He could, tho, tell me where the downtown was, so I made it there. And Webb's show was a wham-doodler, wudn't it? Those guys even got the Darlings beat. And yeah, I seen Tony takin' pictures. Dang, his camera bag was big enough to carry a coupl'a bodies in. And he said that one's the small one. Dang. If there's some of you I didn't get to speak to - hey!

Eric, I managed to get a set list right after you left last night. I will post it in a bit, since you have already done the basic report.

Big Goober, it is a shame you didn't make it to Frank's house last night. Let me tell you, the man is a gracious host with the uncanny talent of making painting tiny strips of wall above picture railing a fascinating subject. And he did well laying out the cheese, Woodchuck, and chips. And the cats! What a pleasure it was to meet Sadie and Simba. It was a nice prerequisite to a great Webb show in downtown Kingsport!

"JuJu Man" was written by Jim Ford and Lolly Vegas (Lolly and her husband Pat went on to form the Native American band Redbone). Ford never made a splash in the record biz but did write some fine songs and has been cited by Nick Lowe as his biggest influence. The tune was recorded by British pub rockers Brinsley Schwarz (including Lowe) on their LP "Silver Pistol" after the band worked with Ford on an album that was never released. It was later covered by Dave Edmunds on "Get It" which is the best known version. As we all know, Webb is a big fan of Lowe and Edmunds, who worked together for many years in Rockpile.

I guess I can put my $.02 as well. What a great show and a perfect evening for it! It is always fun to hang out with fellow WebbHeads. First and foremost, my gal Susan! Thanks for having us over pre-show, Frank. I had a great time. The house is beautiful. I am telling you, if Sadie goes missing, she will be well taken care of. HA! Good seeing the BIG E again (Go #9). Also fun hanging out with the Yardmaster, his brother Robert (the maestro of Moto-Guzzi), Dave Ledford (What are we gonna eat!?!?!) and his gal.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Webb and they guys? They were HOT last night. I think that was the best I have ever heard "Slow Death". Quickly becoming one of my faves. Also "Louisiana Hannah" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Paying close attention and listening to a certain bass player during these songs just made me realize yet again: TOM COMET RULES!!!

miker, trust me, I know how you feel about Tony Bowles, but you really have to give Bob Williams a chance. It's pretty obvious that Tony Bowles has re-prioritized and moved on and now Bob Williams is the permanent lead guitarist. If I can have a change of heart and accept Big Bob Williams after a long-standing fascination with all things Tony Bowles, anybody can.

10-4 Susan, Bob Williams is an awesome guitarist. We have witnessed numerous performances since he joined the band full time and Bob is THE BOMB! KEEP ROCKIN' BOB!!! Mike

Hey guys this is Dori: I liked Tony also, but Tony needs to do what is best for Tony. Tony and Bob Williams are both great guitarist. But, at this point isn't it really who has it in their heart to be a Beatneck? Isn't that what it's about? What's in your heart comes out through those fingertips. I know after talking with and seeing Bob, he really wants to be there and to me thats what makes the difference. Nancy is humping to book Webb, as he will play 80 plus shows this year. Due to the guys schedules sometimes a fill-in Beatneck is needed. An example: George and Bryan filled in at the Crossville show and it was a great one. We have to support whoever is on that stage. Take Care, Dori

Thanks all of ya'll!!!! Eric, the Parts-O-Caster(My "Signature Model") was only played on the first song because as Tom sadly inFormed me upon completion of first song, I was tuned a half step different than Tom and Bob! They quickly compensated/transposed and played the song in an F position while I soldiered on in E!?!? Just had the guitar refretted and although they gave it back to me tuned (in my customary way) a half step flat, when I took it back after the Crossville show for adjustments, the guy must have tuned in up to pitch! I was unaware and just touched up what I thought was the correct tuning on the electronic tuner before the show. Whoa! SOOOOO....at that point, rather than take time to RADICALLY (not just a touch up!) retune...I switched to THE BLACK! Glad you liked it. ALWAYS BE PREPARED AND IF YER NOT...HAVE A BACK UP PLAN FOR WHEN YA BLOW IT! WW

Goob, you should try a Woodchuck sometime. Frank serves 'em up just right. Had you made it to Frank's before the show, you could have indulged in the two I didn't consume. My limit was four that night.
