Subject: Down Home - one week away
I went by the Down Home earlier and picked up the Tater Family tickets for the upcoming weekend shows - which are now just a week away. Plenty of tickets remain - but don't delay - you never know with DH shows when they might sell out.

Now the really good news.... the guys there at DH made sure they showed me the all new Air Conditioning !!!! Told me it "Rocks" and will keep us all cool.... Although I know the Tater Family is all ready for the heat ... just in case.

So who all is coming - my plans as of now are for Friday night only.... most likely I won't be there on Saturday - but if something changes - I'll pull a double.

OK - the rest of you - chime in looking forward to seeing some of you anyway....

Today when Tony left for Alaska, he said to me, "See you in a week!" I said rather contentedly, "See Webb in a week!" Boy, is Tony gonna miss out!

Hey, just because I am in the great Yukon doesn't mean I can't keep an eye on you guys. Alaska is beautiful, and looking at it on the way into Anchorage before landing made it easier to miss the Down Home. Not that I won't miss what will be going on at the Down Home.

I don't think I'll make it this time. I've gotta go see Hubert Sumlin on Friday night, because future chances to see Webb are a lot more numerous than future chances to see Hubert, whom I've never seen.

My sister's retirement dinner is at 1:00 on Sunday. I had been planning to hustle back from JC for it, but one of the things I enjoy about the trips to JC is sleeping late and taking a leisurely drive back on Sunday, going down back roads and over mountains and turning a 3-hour drive into 6 or 7 hours.

What makes the decision easier is that the Ellington is coming up in a little more than a month. I hate to miss Garland, haven't seen him much in the last couple of years. Maybe he'll drag his scrawny self to the Ellington in August.

Friday only for Me Garland.... the oldest boy has got a Baseball tournament down in Pigeon Forge Sat. & Sun. in fact, the wife & kids will be down there already - I'll be seeing WW then heading down after the show.... so hopefully I'll see you on Friday ... if I was guessing Frank will be at both.

By the way - we'll miss good ole Snake... maybe I'll make a trip up northward for one soon - like possibly the Ellington. Of course you could always come down here in August on the Thursday show in downtown Kingsport.

Well, the discretionary part isn't so much the mileage as the type of roads. 160 miles on 70-mph interstate, or 190 miles mostly on 35-mph back roads.

Snake, I think it's cool that you're goin'; to see Hubert. Hubert, Pinetop and Willie Big Eyes smith are all treasures..not to mention B.B. KING! My friend, Casper Rawls, got to hang out with Hubert some in Austin back in the '70s right after the Wolf died. The stuff Hubert played on those records along with Howlin'Wolf's other worldly vocals, the arrangements...wow. I said somethin' to Clifford Antone about Howlin' Wolf one time and he said,"He was a Rock and Roller, wasn't he?" That stuff is Hendrix before Hendrix! Anyway, have a good time. We'll see ya in Lynchburg or the Saturn Delta, dig? WW

We're pretty well stuck here in St. Louis for a while 'cause my Dad is in the hospital with a blood infection. Really scary for a while but he's getting better.

Susan -

if you check the board - TATER says he ended up with yet another extra ticket from those he has already bought - (currrently in my posession). But, if you want to just buy one of them from Tater instead of at the door -- (which includes for both nights) ... post something back here so I can let him know ... he is currently on the road headed down toward JC, TN...

Glad your dad is on the mend. Blood infection can be very scary. I have a friend my age who had it a couple of years ago...he's still dealing with the after-effects because his caused a lot of organ damage. Good thoughts are coming your way from me.

BTW, didn't know Susan Cowsill was still making the rounds, tho she did do background vocals on Twilley's "The Luck" a few years back. I hope you have fun tonight.

Susan Cowsill was in a band called the Continental Drifters. They did some good stuff. I discovered them when I ran across this CD:

http://www.continentaldrifters.com/listen-listen.htm

It's a tribute to two of my favorites, Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson.
