Sorry to bother anybody that's not interested, but at my stage of life it's nice to run across something cool that you haven't heard before. I was listening to WFMU, and they played a song by Dom Mariani and the DM3. The DJ said Mariani was a power-pop guy from Australia. It was one of those records that just sorta jumps out of the speakers at you.

So I thought I'd see if there was anything by him on YouTube, and I found a gold mine of good stuff. Seems he started out with a band called The Stems in the 80s, and that The Stems have gotten back together and played at SXSW this year.

Two guitars, bass and drums can't be beat (except for the drums maybe.) Real music is out there, and real people are making it.

Bart, I was wondering about that bass myself. I think I've seen somebody else playing one in the last few years.

I googled around a little, and it looks to me like it is a Gibson EB-2 or a copy thereof.

There's a real sweet looking one on Ebay for $2700. If I could play the bass and had $2700 to spare, I'd check it out.

Reading that article, I bet what I recall seeing was Samwell-Smith in some old Yardbirds stuff on YouTube.
