Subject: August 21st full solar eclipse - passing over Nashville
There will be a very rare total solar eclipse passing across the USA on August 21st. Luckily for our Volunteer State pals, this historic cosmic event's totality path will transit directly across Nashvegas!

WebbCo World Headquarters and the surrounding area will receive roughly two full minutes of totality, during which the sun's corona can be seen all around the blackened-out disc of Sol itself. Assuming the weather cooperates, it should be absolutely spectacular to view!

Unfortunately, I'm far too distant to the north to experience totality at all, so I must say, I am quite envious. However, even a partial coverage of the sun creates some interesting and weird lighting effects (both in the sky, and as one looks around on Earth)... so I'll be outside anyway.

For more info, see map located here:

I just hope this isn't some sort of elaborate cover-up for the mothership coming back to pick up anybody we know! Nah, it can't be that. Too obvious and well publicized to go unnoticed. RIGHT??!?

PS. If you plan to view the Eclipse, be sure to use all appropriate eye protection measures. Never view the sun directly without appropriate measures!! The site I linked has some safety and ISO-certification information you can reference as a starting point.

Bowling Green city officials are expecting our population to at least double Sunday and Monday. I think it sounds like a great day to stay home.

We have some solar eclipse glasses, so we'll be checking it out from our backyard, assuming it's not cloudy. The forecast currently says clear, but I missed the Perseids (as I do every year) because we had cloud cover both nights.

I saw the total solar eclipse that went up the east coast in March of 1970. If you have a chance to see this one, be sure to do it. That solar corona is far more impressive when seen for real than seeing it in a photograph or a TV image.

Here in St. Louis the weather was hot but clear, we got a great look at the eclipse. It was fun to see the sunset all around, feel the temperature drop, and to hear the cicadas and crickets start singing. Awesome.

Agreed, Tommy Lee- it was really fantastic here in Nashville too! We stayed at our house, and totality didn't last as long as it would have further north, but some of the large gatherings downtown had a passing cloud just at the moment of totality, so I'm sure glad we didn't go there!
